I was thinking about this during my morning hike.

I think their should be a Rocky Mountain Goat clan-widely dispersed small groups and single members who rarely run into each other, but share a passion for canyons, high meadows, conifer forests and alpine tundra.

Proud Member of the Loony, er Loon clan,
member in good standing of the Michigan Mountaineers (I know about Brockway Drive..lol and graduated from Midland..I humbly accept your sympathy) and a card carrying member of the Great Lakes Confederacy I feel, with all the "membering", my status as a female on shaky ground..........heh heh heh

Buddha Bear...you forgot the New York Snow Cavers in your Great Lakes Confederacy. The western part of the state requires its own faction.

Doesn't Florida consist largely of retired northerners...maybe they should be kept on the payroll for reconnasance reasons.

So now, my question is.. given our recognized state of confederations and associated sub-factions.. do we choose to unify under a federation with a more "blanketed" form of control?

do i smell a civil war? no, it can't be...

The weirdest coincidence has to be the Montana Clan; newgirl, geezr and me. We all now live or work within a few blocks of each other. As far as I know, we're the only other Montanans posting here. Actually there are more sheep here than people, so maybe it's not such a remote possibiltiy unless the sheep start posting. And if they do, whatever they say, it's a lie!

Chief's in the neighborhood, too- only 100 miles away.

stratdewd,

I work for one of the local TV stations here in SLC. When I was dating my wife, one of her sisters thought it was clever to refer to me as mediaman. When I was signing up for trailtalk, it was the only thing I could think of to use. I should change my trailname since I don't like associating myself with my job, but it works for now.

With the trail we're doing, I'd say probably not. However, I've never done this route before, so i can't say for sure. I'm just basing that judgement from looking at the topos.. this route we're doing is actually a pretty sane looking one.

There are "loons" nowslimmer, and there are loons of a better sort, as can be noted in our geographical designation as the Superior Loons -- for long, cold, dark winters and short, skeeter-ridden summers will make anyone who spends time within the aura of the great Gitchee Gumee better at being a loon than most who aspire to the badge of honor.

Buddha Bear, while Yoopers may be from Michigan, technically, their spirits are more likely to follow the call of the Loons -- so dual clan-ship for doze guys n gals above da bridge.

Trip rpt from Clan of the Sauna Cave Bear '99
The Clan definitely “dresses” for dinner. Furs and bones never looked so stylish. Some people brought costumes; others made theirs up on the spot using what was on hand. (In days of yore, some have appeared at the campfire wearing various fetid “parts” of a decaying bighorn found up the canyon.) The potluck dinner was delicious - those Neanderthals sure can cook.

The red wine tasting followed. Our sommelier, Terry tried on Jerry’s reading glasses and had a revelation: they didn’t print those labels fuzzy after all! Pat was inspired to burst forth with operatic arias for every vanilla note in each glass. We all had fun sipping wine and threatening to devour other campers when they passed by our lair. The vintages were generally well received, other than one obviously fraudulent Kool-Aid soup my canoe partner tried to pass off as wine. Even cavemen aren’t that crass…

As darkness fell, our fearless Clan Leader, Moog made his annual prayer to the Sauna Cave Bear God to bestow us with the gift of heat and light. The Sauna Cave Bear God blessed us by igniting our campfire with a fireworks display that illuminated the sky over two States. So impressed were our neighbors down the canyon that they spontaneously broke out in a rousing rendition of “The Star Spangled Banner” (followed by a shout to ‘play ball!’). The Clan’s traditions and its member's behavior that followed were so appalling and far-fetched that no one would believe me even if I were capable of describing them. Suffice to say; you had to be there.

Ultimately, most of us ended up back in the hot springs by moonlight again. Our Leader,
Snow Nymph had such a good time, she forgot her skirt at the lower pool. Leadership skills are important and I want to go on all the trips that Snow Nymph leads from now on.
