I'll have to get up there! i wouldn't doubt it!” 10:34:26 AM 2/10/03 “It's dryer than a popcorn f@rt here in AZ, a storm is predicted, but we don't count it till we step in it. It would be awesome timing if we do get it, we're doing 3 nights in the Mazatzals starting Saturday. This would take care of water worries.” 11:28:18 AM 2/10/03 “It is official: The East Coast Blizzard of 2003We have only had about five of these in my lifetime. Right now we are supposed to have 20-30 inches of snow before it is done. They closed school for a week in 1996 for one of these because they had so much snow to move out of the parking lots to make room for busses and they had to use backhoes. This time it is supposed to warm up later in the week and help melt some snow. Flooding will become a concern.” 6:51:58 AM 2/17/03 “That's what happened in 1996. Two feet of snow followed by 60 degrees and rain caused really bad flooding here and the river went over.” 7:12:10 AM 2/17/03 “Well, it has started here in Cleveland - we have about 1 foot of new snow on the ground, and it's coming down HARD! How much snow do y'all have now?” 7:13:35 AM 2/17/03 “I just looked out my window and it's still coming down pretty hard. My car will probably be buried by days end. Later on today I might order a pizza and pick it up myself, walking over in my snowshoes.” 7:27:46 AM 2/17/03 “LOL Artex - you'll have to post a trip report.” 7:37:35 AM 2/17/03 “That's gonna be some Chilly pizza. It didn't completely miss us in GA. I had to scrape ice off the windshield, <G>” 7:37:38 AM 2/17/03 “Sometime late last week Des Moines got 14 inches or so. 3.5 hours NE of there? Nada... suiting me just fine. LOL!” 7:42:00 AM 2/17/03 “we've got almost 2 feet here and it is still coming down! whoohooo!” 7:51:17 AM 2/17/03 “Just think if this had rolled in 48 hours ago....” 8:09:39 AM 2/17/03 “It's 70 degrees F here!” 8:16:09 AM 2/17/03 “Time to go to the Water Gap with the snowshoes” 8:24:02 AM 2/17/03 “Just found out grad classes are cancelled, whaaahoooooo” 8:25:03 AM 2/17/03 “Is It SNOWING???” 8:38:06 AM 2/17/03 “SirPete, I got up this morning and went on ESU's website to see if school was closed. If I didn't see they were closed I was going to call and #&%!$ majorly!!! We have well over a foot here! I haven't tried to push the door open yet to check.” 8:57:28 AM 2/17/03 “I just talked to Tarabull who is driving back to MI, she is going 45 mph, and it's snowing cats and dogs. She'll be allright, and I hope everyone else made it back home OK this weekend.” 9:01:27 AM 2/17/03 Here in Virginia “the system is finally leaving. We have about 6 inches of sleet and ice. I'd rather have snow, thank you. School is cancelled of course. Today was a make-up for a sniper day, which we didn't build into our school calendar this year. Keep safe and warm everyone.” 9:11:00 AM 2/17/03 “This is so cooool! I have no idea how much we've had because the high winds have drifted it all over the place. There's about 2.5 feet piled up against the front door, the back is clear. It's supposed to snow until tomorrow morning. We're about to go play. I guess we'd better put a flag on my toddler.” 9:17:36 AM 2/17/03 “8-10 here in Ct it is snowing so hard that as fast as I shoveled it covered back up. Glad I work from home! Got a big pot of black beans and rice cooking, that should keep me warm.” 9:27:43 AM 2/17/03 “We have maybe 16 inches, but like Violin said, with the snow falling off the roof and blowing into drifts, it is really hard to say. I was teasing my daughter to not fall down or we might not ever find her, and she got really upset. Bad mommy!” 9:29:03 AM 2/17/03 “Storm is gone here. We got four inches of ice then another four of snow on top. That's a bunch for southern Indiana. It's the most ice ever recorded in a 24-hour period for the entire region. I still went to work. Drats!” 10:11:16 AM 2/17/03 “Damn! You east coasters, don't know how severly bad we need that out here.” 10:19:41 AM 2/17/03 “And there are/were some of your own backpackers out in this. dolts!! LOL!! I'm sure there will be magnificent stories to be told when they dig out of wherever they might be holed up!! Can't wait to hear..... :-)” 1:34:01 PM 2/17/03 “I wish I had been out in this. Does that make me a dolt?” 4:08:44 PM 2/17/03 “mebbee... we'll just have to see what the hardy trekkers had to say. Actually, though, I think the people in the -19 snowshoeing might be bigger dolts. BUT... then again... if these guys had -19 plus a blizzard... hmmmmmm... *weighing decision on hands*” 5:20:10 PM 2/17/03 “hey, the blizzard didn't even hit as far North as the FYAO trip! I wish it had snowed while we were there...the snow clouds would have kept it warmer for us. Brrrrr It is still snowing here in PA. Dare and I snowshoed into town, trekking along the top of the snow-plow mountains on the side of the road. It was fun! When we got back to our house, we played king of the mountain - the snow mountain in front of our house is almost as high as the second floor of the house! Our neighbors think we're nuts... >;D” 5:26:36 PM 2/17/03 “the Water Gap is spectacular!” 6:49:37 PM 2/17/03 “ESU cancelled classes already for Tuesday.... Hell is hoing to freeze over.” 6:51:09 PM 2/17/03 “bummer, I don't go back till Wednesday. It will be all cleaned up by then. We are now suppose to get some warmer weather to help out. I may go snowshoeing tomorrow after work in the gap before we loss all the snow. Have head lamp will travel. Tammany is real nice in the evening, watching the cars going by down below.” 6:55:43 PM 2/17/03 “The "boys" -- including stratusloop, stikmon, don and possibly a few others left Sunday, I guess. Far as I knew, the plan was to go overnight to some part of the Appalachian Trail in western PA. Can't remember the segment. Wait! I think it wasn't too far from Gettysburg........ so would they have gotten buried, if that is indeed where they went??” 7:01:08 PM 2/17/03 “SirPete Let me know if you go... IF I get shoveled/plowed out I may be able to meet you there... That's if you want my company...” 7:08:46 PM 2/17/03 “help me --I'm snowed in with a teenager and she is sooooooooooooooo board! I tried to get her to go out and play with me but no way.My dog loves it though!” 8:18:53 PM 2/17/03 “Adventurist, I will post on this as soon as I know tomorrow.” 9:28:26 PM 2/17/03 “I think you Yanks got more snow than us Canucks the last two years. "The Great White North" phrase goes to you guys. The only provinces that got hit bad this year were all on the east coast...New Brunswick, Newfoundland, P.E.I and Nova Scotia.” 9:46:02 PM 2/17/03 wolfsister “Make the teenager go out and shovel the snow! ;-}” 10:14:58 PM 2/17/03 “Liz - that part of Pa probably got about 2 feet of snow. I hope they're ok.” 10:27:10 PM 2/17/03 “wow! Thanks Pennsy, I wasn't sure quite where all the snow went. I believe they were going snowshoeing as well, so that is good.” 11:52:33 PM 2/17/03 Chief Sighting! “I spotted Chief in the Bierstube on Red Lodge Mountain yesterday (I was just passing through, of course). He was up there skiing with his kids. He forced me to drink a pitcher of Moose Drool afterwards. 8 1/2 feet of snow on the ski slopes so far in February but yesterday was sunny and clear. The rest of it went out east somewhere. Has anyone out there seen it?” 1:40:19 PM 2/18/03 HEY!!!!! “Don't be telling on me!! Well here in Cody they let the high schoolers go home this morning, that is if you weren't already at home SICK. I guess there was close to 200 students that stayed home sick, so they just decided to cancel school altogether. The neihbor kids were out bbq'ing when I went home for lunch.” 2:00:03 PM 2/18/03 “Chief, that kills me. My mom always BBQ's in the winter. It's hilarious.” 2:05:04 PM 2/18/03 “Yeah, but it's NOT like winter here today, it's more like spring. I bbq in the winter too, actually. Just right now the propane tank is empty.” 2:08:53 PM 2/18/03 We have survived!!! “This is Stikmon on Stratusloop's pc. We went, we saw, we were snowed upon...we survived!!! To any that have yet to attain the Zen that snowshoeing can provide you, then, your life is not yet complete. I am still in Phila area and awaiting for my flight home at 6am wed morn... To say that this weekend was a BLAST!!! is a gross understatement and falls way short of the true event. A full and complete trip report with more photos than I could possibly post up will be forthcoming... I just wanted to arrest any fears that we were missing in action. Thanks for the support Lizs.” 5:14:53 PM 2/18/03 “Why do I feel like I'm in a Bartle's and James commercial??? LOL (all you youngsters just go about your business cuz you won't "get" that. LOL!) Welcome back to the non-white world, snow chooches!!” 5:54:54 PM 2/18/03 “It's sad... I have never seen it snow :(.” 5:56:25 PM 2/18/03 “Free23, you're new here (I haven't seen you post before)....and a grrrrrl no less. Guys, I think it's time for a hazing.....wooohoo. Snow is cool...as long as you don't have to drive in it, walk in it or shovel it.” 9:51:19 PM 2/18/03 LET IT SNOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! “Man it just started coming down hard here in Cody. In Red Lodge, we arrived to a fresh 12 inches of powder on Saturday morning. The cardboard races were a hit, as always. AND, they had to haul 1 guy off on backboard and stretcher due to a big crash at the end of the race with another craft. When we were driving out, two ambulances were going up.” 12:06:29 PM 3/03/03 YoooHoooo!!!! “It's snowing again!!! We're getting about 1/2" an hour looks like. RedLodge got another foot today!!! That guy who crashed in the cardboard race on Saturday. Turned out a piece of cardboard cut his throat. Luckily they had Ski Patrol right there and were able to stop/contain the bleeding and, not so basically, saved the guys life. Talk about lucky.” 4:24:25 PM 3/06/03 “YAY!! Bout time!” 11:21:01 PM 1/25/04 2:30am in the Catskills “I'm up getting ready to go to work & it's NOT snowing! They predicted snow,(lower park at 1700') but we haven't got any yet. We do seem to have a bunch of micro-climates areas though.” 1:51:51 AM 1/26/04 Jump to Page << prev
