yahoo spam

“I get an awful lot of spam with yahoo.com addresses. Anybody know of a way to stop it? My spam filter has limits for entire addresses, and if I block everything from yahoo.com I don't get mail from legitimate correspondents. Looks like they change the address everytime they send it off to defeat spam filters, the bastids.”

“It helps if your ISP has a spam filter. I'm using Bellsouth, and they have an excellent spam filter that gets 90% of it and chucks it, so you never see it. It's based on subject lines and message contents, I believe.

I have quite a few rules on my inbox as well, which try to find any spam that gets past Bellsouth's filter, mark it as read, and delete it. But unfortunately, there's no foolproof way to block spam, unless you set up filters which disallow mail from everyone except people in your address book.

Yahoo's not really to blame, because the spammers are spoofing the return address to make it look like it's coming from a yahoo account when it's really not.”

“That's what I was afraid of. If you respond by unsubscribing, it just gets worse.”

“Exactly. What unsubscribing does is give them a "qualified good" email address, which they then sell to other spammers. So the best thing to do is ignore it.”

“I thought i'd seen all the tricks, previously i'd even gotten spam directed from, say my own hotmail address into my hotmail inbox. But this is the first time i've seen something directed from my yahoo account to my hotmail account. I'd like to see how they managed that one, lol.”

The addresses where it comes from are valid, including the Philadelphia Inquirer. Somebody there must have German language skills and thought they were getting the tip of the millenium. Then again, it may already have burrowed into our address books and gone back out across the universe. I hate Outlook Express.”

I had over 20 this weekend. and 5 or so this morning already.

I downloaded trillian on this computer, I think they come from europe (not sure) I am gonna delete it again)

I ran the ad aware and my other spy program remover, found some stuff too...but I am still getting the german crap.

Oh...I noticed some is from a site called spiegel. I visisted that site last week because of a thread with link here on this site. I betcha spiegel site a big ol' mean cookie on their site. bastards.
