I suck at typing this morning. My wife and I are running in the Country Music 1/2 marathon in April, and plan to pace ourselves at 10 min. mile... It should be a blast. Smiley, I would run what is comfortable to you and be consistent, the pace will take care of itself. Pushing your self too hard can bring injury. DUHHHHHH” 8:55:58 AM 3/16/05 “applesauce, the lady I am seeing wants me to do that. I could walk it but no way I would run it. To much damage to the knees on pavement. BTW do you live in nashville” 9:00:15 AM 3/16/05 “Nope... the evil sister in law does. The reason we're doing this one is my wife is running with Team in Trainning.” 9:05:03 AM 3/16/05 “same here..Team in Training lures quite a few folks in...to hard to raise that much money IMO” 9:07:40 AM 3/16/05 “Yeah... we won't go thru them anymore... it is a good group of people and they have a great cause, but there is a lot of outside hassle with the fund raising. The support and trainning schedule is great though.” 9:09:56 AM 3/16/05 “i have a goal for a 5k in July to run it in 31 minutes, since it'll be my 31st birthday. there's no reason i can't pick up the pace from the half-walk i do right now. i'm still a long way from a 10-minute mile as it is. i think the key for me will just to go run more often - i'm going to shoot for 4x a week. i have to remind myself that its actually OK to only be at the gym for 30 minutes. its actually ok to just run, and not necessarily lift weights. time is such a constraint on my life lately, that i can't do it all. i should start lifting weights in our "gym" downstairs at work during lunch, then i won't have to feel guilty about not being at the gym longer!” 9:52:53 AM 3/16/05 “I think it is great that you are being consistent. Keep it up. Use light weights and more reps. and make sure you work on your flexibility!!! This will go a long way in keeping the injuries down.” 10:00:39 AM 3/16/05 “Chris Carmichael (Lance's coach) said that if your going to excerise for 30 minutes the best thing you could do is run. So don't worry about it Smiley just do it. BTW your a fine looking 30 yr old ;)” 10:01:28 AM 3/16/05 “Hey, if you are gonna be in Nashville the weekend that they have the marathon. You guys can cheer me on. I will be the guy in a t-shirt, shorts and running shoes. :-)” 10:08:46 AM 3/16/05 “LOL @ applesauce! Thanks, Ewker. There's definitly some toning that is needed, but I'm just gonig to tackle one goal at a time. But, main priorty is and will remain finishing school. :)” 10:11:39 AM 3/16/05 “Study on!” 10:13:35 AM 3/16/05 “ok applesauce I will look for you, it shouldn't be to hard..lol” 10:33:37 AM 3/16/05 “Hey SG, I found that going slower for longer was easier for me. I started out running on the treadmill at an unbelievably slow 4.5 mph pace. But, I was able to do up to three miles that way. It got easier fast and eventually ( within a year) I was up to 8 1/2 min miles, but ten minute miles are/were my favorites. I'm really hoping to get the okay to run again at the end of the month when I see my regular Dr. Hopefully I'll be able to trot along next to ya on Tuesdays and maybe Fridays. =) I'll be starting from scratch again; it's been since November that I've run with any regularity.” 10:40:04 AM 3/16/05 “Sass, that would be awesome if we could run together, especially outside!! I'm looking forward to that!” 12:42:28 PM 3/16/05 “me too! I'm just looking forward to running. Man, I hope I get the okay!” 1:13:30 PM 3/16/05 “Hey Applesauce, I was hoping to get to Nashville for that 1/2 marathon, since there's a bunch of awesome Nashvillians I would love to see. My pace is b/w 9:30 and 10:00 for that length. Perhaps we'd run into one another (no pun intended, seriously).” 4:21:07 PM 3/16/05 “Smiley, if you are interested I can help set up a training plan to get you to your goal of 31,31 for 3.1. Let me know, its easy and painless. Good luck regardless, its really great to see folks get excited about running and fitness. Once you start and have a routine it get really easy.” 4:41:45 PM 3/16/05 “made it outside for my second non-treadmill run of the year today. How friggin great to leash up the beasts and go go go. Good news with the plantar fascitis. I have been chilling the arch/heel area by rolling a cold can of soup back and forth each night for 10 min or so, seems to be helping with the morning tightness and pain.” 9:11:01 PM 3/16/05 “Birch, that would be great. I'll shoot you an e-mail. Last night I ran a 10:30 mile on the treadmill (note: I just ran one mile, then biked 3.5). Felt good, though. I've got some soreness along my shins, which is typical for the treadmill for me. I'm thinking I'll alternate the treadmill and the track upstairs.” 7:54:42 AM 3/17/05 “Tarabull... just don't run me over if you pass me. 'sauce” 7:59:42 AM 3/17/05 “I had a great running weekend. Got out real early Saturday morning and did my 16 mi. long run before the snow started. Ran it all at a <9 min. pace, and it felt great. I need to somehow get down to 8 by the marathon in May. Raced the St. Paddy's race in Bay City Sunday, one of the bigger ones around here. Took 5th out of 52 in my age bracket, and bettered my PR by 21 seconds - for a 22:39. I'm getting within sight of the racers! I hope to do the half in Nashville, too. That, and one in Flushing in 2 weeks. I read about some interesting trail runs this July in the UP. A "rugged" 10K along Lake Superior, a 5.8K uphill to Mt. Baldy, a 25K run around the Keweenaw, and a marathon around the shore of Grand Island near Munising. It's great to finally see signs of spring, like all the runners out on the rail-trail. Birch, I had nasty plantar fascitis several years ago. Frozen juice cans and stretching fixed me. Still have to do the stretches till this day. That Kelsey Gramar (sp) show had a skit about extremest sports. Showed folks in KKK and taliban outfits, etc. running and mountain biking.” 11:28:42 AM 3/21/05 “Nice running, le Subtil! I actually ran for the 3rd day in a row yesterday - wow!” 12:05:02 PM 3/21/05 “Wow leSubtil, you're doing GREAT! Keep it upI was out on Saturday and saw the Martian Marathon runners start off. You guys are freaks I tell you! But in a good way. ;-)” 12:19:08 PM 3/21/05 “le Subtil, Maybe I'll spot you way up in front of me at the Country Music Marathon. I am running it with my wife. We plan to run about a 10 min. pace. Have a great race” 12:24:12 PM 3/21/05 “LS - way to go! I was planning to go to Bay City on Sunday, but got lazy and just watched basketball instead. Mind you, I wasn't going to run the race, was just headed there to drink. ;) G and I walked the 5K course in Frankenmuth this weekend. We got to a pretty big uphill, and I started freaking out. Then, we realized we were walking the course backwards, and it would be a downhill. LOL! I just hope my knees hold out! Should be a decent course to run. I like that I know where I'm going on the course. Birch set up a training plan for me. I think the hardest thing for me with it will be eating well. My entire week this week consists of 12-14 hour days. There's not much time to prepare much that's nutritous! Tonight will be the first night of my trainig regimine. :)” 12:51:38 PM 3/21/05 “LS, the refridgerated can of mushroom soup has worked wonders over the last few weeks, i have almost no pain left. Glad to hear your running is going so well. Those UP runs sounds fun, city streets get old fast.” 2:48:55 PM 3/21/05 “my first run in a week (the flu etc is finally gone the congestion is lingering...) did a 5 miler with the dogs in a pinch under 39 minutes, felt great. The weather is finally turning for the better. Tried my new running shoes with some success though I will need to break em in...” 6:05:29 PM 3/28/05 “I am so happy! I was running tonite and about an hour into it I realized my heal pain was GONE, must a combo of the new shoes and rolling the chilled soup can. Either way I am ecstatic as my first race is in 24 days....” 8:46:43 PM 4/06/05 “Yea birch! That's good news! I'm going to buy new shoes tonight. HOpefully that'll cure my shin pain. It reared its ugly head last night, and I didn't even go running!!” 7:33:09 AM 4/07/05 Here's a question “I just idly noticed that Fritz started this thread back in 2003. How is Fritz. he and I vehemently disagreed on some things, like religion, but he always was decent and kind. Seemed like a stand up guy. I know he pops in occasionally. And I know some of you know him personally. I made us all aware of the issues he had going on in seperating from his wife. It just got me thinking that I wondered how he was doing.” 10:31:40 AM 4/07/05 “Which race is your first, Birch? Doing the half at Pickney again? Still waiting for my new shoes to come in, it's been 3 weeks. They must be popular! Sure could use them. I'm up over 40 mi/wk with close to 800 miles on the old ones. Sure is nice to be running outside in shorts and a t-shirt again.” 11:20:30 AM 4/07/05 “Hiya le Subtil! Are you going to Isle Royale this May? Keep the good work, everyone!” 11:23:34 AM 4/07/05 “Sunshine: I wish. No big plans for IR this year, at least yet. I might do the Superior Trail in Sept/Oct. There is an interesting 3 race festival this July on the Keeweenaw peninsula however. A 10k run on the "Gratiot River North" trail, a 5.8k hill climb up "Mt. Baldy", and a 25k to and from the Keweenaw Mountain Lodge. How are you and the sunspots? They must be getting big!” 11:43:02 AM 4/07/05 “LeSubtil, Birch is talking about his firstAdventure race. No one's doing the pinckney race this year. I just got running again and am only up to 3.25 miles at a time (I feel like I could keep going but am hesitant to push things too fast for fear of foot problems and tendonitis reoccuring) and Birch has races or big training days with the team or something that're keeping him from doing it. You gonna be there?” 11:57:33 AM 4/07/05 “What an interesting thread. I have heard of this "running" activity. Maybe I will try it sometime....” 12:47:25 PM 4/07/05 “LeSubtil as Joy said I am not running it this year. I have a 2 day training wknd prior and a race the following wknd. I wish I were though. I will probably not do any running races till sept or oct when I have time to commit to running only, maybe another marathon or an ultra that I have been wanting to o, time will tell.” 7:30:11 PM 4/07/05 “"He always was decent and kind." Hey Lee, thanks for the eulogy. :-) I am doing ok, working on getting my personal and business life in order, cleaning up some of the messes I made during a very dysfunctional marriage. Running...I have been running maybe twice a week, 2-1/2 miles. It is a start. Also spinning class once a week, volleyball once a week, plan to get the bike out on the road tonight for the first time this year. Last backpacking trip was October, four days solo in New Hampshire, Lee you may remember that discussion because you are up that way, right? I will be going on the High Sierra Trail trip in California the beginning of July, seven days on the trail, with my son shiprunner, can't wait for that! So that's the summary. Again, thanks for asking.” 10:26:31 AM 4/08/05 “High Sierra Trip sounds great! thans for checking in. Good luck as you move along.” 11:04:30 AM 4/08/05 “Good to see ya round Fritz!” 3:07:33 PM 4/08/05 “Hi Fritz! =D” 3:09:00 PM 4/08/05 “another 7.5 tonite with the dogs, this spring weather is amazing!!! 61 and sunny with a light breeze perfect weather. I have dropped some weight and can fit comfortably into my fav hawaiian shirt which is a medium, very very cool.” 7:53:30 PM 4/08/05 “I finally got some new running shoes, and boy, they made all the difference in the world. I ran 2.5 miles on Sunday morning, with absolutley no pain. I was on such a high all day long, and still a bit today! I'm quite proud of myself, thank you very much!!” 9:18:23 AM 4/11/05 “Good job SG! So, are we running tomorrow?” 10:52:20 AM 4/11/05 “Sass, no, probably not. I've got a boatload of things to do before we head to WI this weekend, and I have a boatload of homework due on Wednesday! I did enjoy running with you last week, even though I couldn't talk while we were running! I've got two more weeks of school, and then I get a two week break before summer starts. Hopefully we can run again then!” 11:22:16 AM 4/11/05 “ok, i'm back into the running now, after basically being lazy all winter. Singed up for another 5k, up in Fort Collins, CO! Now, where did I pack my lungs when I moved out here????..........” 12:02:36 PM 4/11/05 “I am back from my spring break... My wife and I rattled off our 12 mile run on saturday. We are pumped about the Country Music 1/2 Marathon. It should be a blast. I also got a new pair of shoes and they are nice. Keep up the great work everybody.” 12:05:23 PM 4/11/05 “good to hear everyone is doing so well! Good luck at the 1/2 applesauce!” 8:13:58 PM 4/11/05 “I got my pool cleaned up and got a good tan doing it. Then I had to go for a jog to get warmed up enough to jump in. It was mighty fine!” 4:11:55 AM 4/12/05 “Good luck, applesauce! I won't be running any halfs this season. Still having to run shorter distances til the knee problem subsides completely. I may be in Nashville that weekend, tho! I'll think of ya! I'm hoping to run a race w/ dad and the guys this weekend; it's been too long since I've done one. It'll all depend on how late I end up working on Friday.” 5:56:50 AM 4/14/05 “Bummer tarabull! I hope you can get whatever the problem is sorted out. I'm back up to 3.25 miles. Am so tempted to stay out and try to do more. Building up slowly is hard.” 8:02:19 AM 4/14/05 Jump to Page << prev
