I don't take any chances with my knees. If I blew my knee out I'd be ruined because I'm self employed.” 11:06:17 AM 11/09/06 “See, I told you guys!! No one else would believe me that you were a prostitute, Nigal.” 11:12:43 AM 11/09/06 neat tool “http://www.usatf.org/routes/map/ check out the link - you can map your route and save it or you can search out a route in your area (or an area your visiting). I like that I can plot my route and check the distance - plus it create an elevation profile.” 11:55:39 AM 11/13/06 1:13:57 PM 11/13/06 “Very cool Roam! I've been looking for a tool like this. It looks like my usual route is around 5 miles. yay!!!” 2:34:30 PM 11/13/06 “good deal em - 5 miles ain't bad for sea level! ;) LOL” 3:37:29 PM 11/13/06 “Wow that's awesome! Looks like I was doing about 4 miles on that route i normally do. I gotta find a shorter route.” 3:42:32 PM 11/13/06 “Yee-haw!!! Stanford women won their 2nd consecutive NCAA title this morning in Indiana! Colorado was 2nd, about 30 points behind. Men finished 4th, with Colorado, Wisconsin, and Iona finishing ahead of them.” 2:59:48 PM 11/20/06 “BTW, that makes 31 consecutive years in which Stanford has won a team NCAA championship in at least one sport....” 3:41:18 PM 11/20/06 Thirty-something Annual Turkey Trot “37.500°N, 122.310°W Tomorrow. 9 AM. Be there. Aloha.” 9:39:44 AM 11/22/06 “Gobble Gobble! last edited: 11/22/06 9:58:59 AM” 9:58:31 AM 11/22/06 “I'm starting to feel more like a 'runner' as opposed to a jogger now. Over the past year I've increased my normal "workout run" from 3 miles to 6 and feel about the same level of tiredness at the end of 6 that I used ot feel at the end of 3. I've started putting a night at the track doing 100 m and 400 m repeats in the mix once a week and I try to do some interval running around miles 3 and 4 on my normal runs. I feel GREAT!” 10:01:44 AM 11/22/06 “Sounds like you're making a run at Aero to be the king running honcho around here....” 10:03:42 AM 11/22/06 “nah - Aero is the running king - I'm just trying to stay healthy and overcome 20+ years of smoking.” 10:19:07 AM 11/22/06 “Good job Roam.” 11:11:55 AM 11/22/06 “way to go Roam....you kicked everybody's arse on the trail before, I dont think I want to even try to hike with you now! heehee, j/k.” 11:20:18 AM 11/22/06 “thanks yall - this thread helps keep me motivated - that and the knowledge that if I want to enjoy the mountains out the window - i have to be in good shape! I tried out some major hill work over the weekend and found out I'm not there yet though.” 11:38:43 AM 11/22/06 “B-Son and I raced this morning. We were both a little slower than last year, but wow, was it ever a gorgeous day!! Totally clear, about 55, no wind - spectacular. I'm icing my foot right now, but, otherwise, an excellent way to start Thanksgiving Day. Saw my old coach, a guy who ran more or less the same era I did, as well as a client of mine and his family. A fun morning!!” 2:19:52 PM 11/23/06 “I promised myself that I was going to hit all the 5k races in my area this year, but it didn't happen. Oh well, at least I am running, even if I'm not getting into the races. I guess that will be my New Years resolution.” 9:05:36 AM 11/24/06 “My next race: the Colder Boulder "A Festival in Tights" Parade of lights downtown friday night, full moon snowshoe Saturday night - 5k on Sunday morning! WOO HOO!!” 5:34:27 PM 11/27/06 “Man that sounds fun! Got myself a new pair of shoes today. Will try 'em out tomorrow.” 10:47:54 PM 11/27/06 “ran 10k today (spring-like weather here in the chicagoland burbs) with my new "pain free" knee that i have been nursing patiently for a looong time now. zero (NO) pain at all. i am really jazzed! i mean no pain, not even "well it hurts a little but i'll run it off and it won't be a big deal" pain. i feel like i am emerging from along, dark tunnel finally. i was running hard as well, so i think i am on the upswing finally...” 3:17:05 PM 12/22/06 “Great news, jimmy! My foot is ever so gradually improving. I did run on a treadmill a few times this week, and the softness of that seems to lessen the post run pain level (pretty low right now anyway).” 4:11:04 PM 12/22/06 “ran 10k again with no problems today. i'll back off for a few days now just to not tempt fate. you know, i have been doing a lot of climbing in the gym these last few months. i wonder if all that climbing hasn't done something good for my right knee? i mean from one perspective it's just strength training... dunno, duncare...” 12:21:13 PM 12/25/06 “That's great Jimmy san. I think it's time to plan a trip back to S. Kettle, eh? That gives me an idea!” 9:11:58 PM 12/25/06 “sniff I miss running” 9:13:07 PM 12/25/06 “2006 was pretty dismal for me, running-wise. I only ran over 100 miles in a month twice, and my running mileage totals for the last 5 months of the year were: 13, 0, 27, 55, 29. Not only did I get nowhere near what used to be a fairly normal running mileage for a year (1,200 miles, or an average of 100/month), but I only logged a little over half of that (680). The only thing saving me from obesity and insanity has been some cross-training (biking, weights). Oh, and I lost over 50 days of potential running due to illness (colds).” 9:22:17 PM 1/01/07 “I never keep track. Birch could probably tell you to the tenth of a mile what he ran. I think I probably had my fastest sprint ever three days ago, lol. Maybe a 1/3 of a mile in two minutes....almost missed our shuttle bus from Disney to the hotel. I was amazed I made it! Here's to an injury-free healthy New year!! I'm starting off with four days a week today.” 9:45:56 AM 1/02/07 “i was ill a lot in 2006 and it doesn't look like 2007 is getting off to a better start. i have had a bad cold for the last two days and it's only getting worse today.” 9:59:02 AM 1/02/07 “I made good progress in 06 and hope to springboard that right into 07! Stay healthy and run hard everyone!” 11:59:32 AM 1/02/07 “Bummer BM, I know the feeling. I wasnt sick but had 3 months of 6 days (10hrs each) plus school that killed my mileage. I planned to add mine tonite, geussing low 800's. Pretty poor. I hope to be back over 1000 this year.” 2:51:25 PM 1/02/07 “The cyphering is done... 830.9 miles good enough for who its for. First run of the year went great. The dogs havent run in a few wks so they were hella motivated. Gonna shoot for another marathon this year ( I think anyway). This is about the time of year I started running some 16 years ago. Then it was to get ready for basic training. I wish I had records of how many miles I have ever run. It'd be interesting to see.” 3:54:18 PM 1/02/07 “I got in almost 700 miles before hurting my leg July 4th - and only about 25 since then. Even now I'm only up to 3 miles, twice a week. I plan to do a lot more cross training. There's 3 of 4 half marathons I'd really like to do, and 2 full marathons. I'm especially looking forward to the longer trail races. There's one from Lk Superior to Taquamenon Falls... and some great short triathalons... Hope everyone has a great year!” 9:13:46 AM 1/03/07 “Thinking about the Chicago Marathon in October. Really need to up the distances but there's plenty of time. Why not, eh?” 9:16:27 AM 1/03/07 “your bustin' out in 2007 hutchie! you will do very well, no doubt.” 10:23:09 AM 1/03/07 “If I post it, I have to live up to it :-) Wanna come with?” 12:48:29 PM 1/03/07 “hehe, more like "wanna drag behind me like a tin can". i have bombed at more marathon training plans than i care to confess. there is one taped to my fridge as i type this, a good 4-5 weeks crossed off before work ate me alive. i have so many things i do any my work is so hectic that i just have a really hard time getting the miles in for a marathon training schedule. this year i made a new years resolution to just run more... something i am pretty sure i will succeed at... but i also resolved to do more projects around the house... something that takes a lot of time as well and is important to the family. ...i'll think about it. october is a long ways away and i want to baby my knee now that it is doing so well.” 12:15:55 AM 1/04/07 “run more = good plan Work does have a tendency of getting in the way of things, doesn't it? And the family stuff is the most important. I've yet to look for a 10 month marathon training program. But I have some intermediate goals/events that will be my focus for the first 1/3 of the year.” 5:20:38 AM 1/04/07 “join cara and sign up for one of their marathon clinics. they are really good. i have had lots of friends use these clinics and they have all easily ran their marathon. the company is supposed to be really good on the group runs.” 3:11:21 PM 1/04/07 “ran 12 miles today on the "new knee"...totally pain free... ran the entire time, didn't stop. i kept a good pace as well so I am hopeful for next year. at least i got a good run out of the terrible warm weather this winter! i am pretty tired now.” 9:32:30 PM 1/07/07 “It's the only good thing about such warm weather. Got two good runs in over the weekend (not 12 miles though). Shanedog pulled up lame after Saturday so he had to stay home yesterday. Ever seen an Irish Setter with a long face? So sad. I'll check out cara Jimmy san. Thanks for the tip.” 10:32:23 AM 1/08/07 “i was hesitant to suggest it since i presumed you would know about cara already. it's an outstanding organization for running and training. it's worth joining just to get the race calendar.” 12:02:25 PM 1/08/07 “whelp, my knee started to hurt yesterday. i stopped running at once despite the fact that i was tempted to keep going. nothing a little rest won't take care of in a week or two but is really bummed me out. it hasn't hurt this much in months. i can't stand much more of this spinning. i have been good about the physical therapy for the knees but only the left knee seems to have responded. i am going back to the doctor i guess but not until after my big trip this march.” 8:29:00 AM 1/22/07 “its melting! The snow and ice in the Denver metro area has finally receeded to the point where the sidewalks are clear enough (but still treachorous in spots) where I felt 'safe' to take to the streets again last night. It's been over 40 every day this week! (But its sposed to snow again tomorrow, only a couple of inches though). Anyway, did a nice little loop last night - it was great to get outside and off the gym treadmill again - first time since before christmas! I've about done every routine I could think of to keep the hamster wheel interesting. There was this one spot though - a snow dam had backed up a bunch of run off and I thought it was solid ice - but it was a looooong puddle about 50 yards long - wet feet - but that was in the last mile :) Still, it was good!” 9:38:36 AM 1/26/07 “No such weather issues here - in fact, it looks like we will finish January as one of the dryest Januaries on record. That's good for running, though. Other than planned days off on the day and day after my chiro appointment last week, I've been able to run, bike, or XC ski every single day so far this year - woo hoo! None of the runs have been super fast or long, but my foot is finally feeling good, so next month I will start to up the mileage and intensity....” 9:49:12 AM 1/26/07 “You can see the sidewalks up there? No such luck down here, it's melted off quite a bit, but there's just so much...” 10:54:43 AM 1/26/07 “Residents and businesses are required by the City of Arvada to keep sidewalks cleared - or face LARGE fines. I think they were pretty lax until this week in enforceing it given the circumstances. But I've heard of notices being left for homeowners that didn't clean off the sidewalks in the last few days.” 12:01:01 PM 1/26/07 “One HUGE problem we have down here now is potholes, now that South Broadway has melted out there are huge potholes all up and down that road, it's a real disaster.” 12:46:17 PM 1/26/07 Sorry to hear the news, BowlderMan! “I know you'll miss being "in touch with nature"! Nude jogger to miss 'liberating feeling' SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) -- A man whose habit of jogging in a park wearing nothing but a pair of running shoes said he would keep his clothes on after he was fined $95 for indecent exposure. Darryl Delacruz, a Silicon Valley engineer, said he would miss the "liberating feeling" of running naked in Fremont Older Open Space Preserve. But he conceded his personal comfort was less important than the discomfort he caused others. "I'll go back, but I'll be wearing clothes," he said. "I don't want people to have the wrong impression." After other park users complained about Delacruz streaking, park rangers kept an eye out for him and finally caught him in the buff Jan. 9. People are allowed to sunbathe naked in the park, but only out of eyeshot of others. "We don't see it as appropriate behavior," said Kerry Carlson, president of the Midpeninsula Rangers Peace Officers Association. "A significant number of people feel uncomfortable with a nude person running around." Delacruz, 43, said his preferred jogging attire was "about getting in touch with nature, not meeting people."” 1:29:30 PM 2/16/07 Jump to Page << prev
