Anything over 30 is a HUGE committment.” 6:24:29 PM 5/05/08 “truth be told i am feeling run down which is a sign that that's too much. that 10 today really left me feeling low tonight.” 9:09:49 PM 5/05/08 “btw, i have switched from watered down gatorade to gookinade hydralite... i use it in the grand canyon and it's amazing stuff. i had some left over from this march and it worked so well i dumped it in my water bottle for my long run. huge difference. really good stuff. the absorbtion of the h2o is outstanding the i find the citrus flavor has virtually no aftertaste. i was watering down the gatorade because it was too sweet. the hydralite is about as sweet as i was looking for, is higher quality carbs, and seems more readily absorbed. i highly recommend the stuff for running, hiking, etc. i think it's called "vitalyte" now or something like that... marketing... nothing like taking a great product you know, love, and trust and change the name so many times that you can't figure out what happened to it. best ever in my book” 9:19:54 PM 5/05/08 “I have heard of gookinade before (from other avid users) but never tried it. I will have to find some and check it out. I havent been drinking anything while running since last summer (except at the gym on the hamster wheel for some reason). As it warms I will add water. Do you buy yours local yogi or online? I have always liked accelerade. Way high calories( I think about 170 per 12ouhnces mixed) and it tastes like strong kool-aide. Kinda the opposite of your liking.” 3:22:41 AM 5/06/08 “It is sold at rei. There are 2 near my house. It is called vitalyte now. I am sure you can get it other places as well” 5:01:52 AM 5/06/08 “Thanks yogi, I will check it out next time I am at REI. I did the same 7m route today, added 14 sec to it but am still happy. truth be told i am feeling run down which is a sign that that's too much. that 10 today really left me feeling low tonight.”Yogisan Do you take/use any recovery drink? I have used r-4 and was very pleased with the results. It has a 4-1 ratio of carbohydrate to protein plus various vitamins/minerals. Taste good if you use very cold water. Those kinda miles are really tough any way you cut it. When I do runs like that its very common for me to get up at 2am to eat again. Be careful and smart about it, you have some cool trips coming up.” 2:15:05 PM 5/06/08 “i tried a few of those but they were so gross... i had to gag them down. bottom line is i am too heavy (overweight) to put in that kind of miles. i'll check out "r-4"... never heard of it.” 2:53:58 PM 5/06/08 “hey, email me your addry birch and i'll drop a few l's of vitalite in the mail for you to try. i have some packets left over from the gc. i think there is fruit punch and also lemonade. the "citrus" is the best imo... the lightest flavor and zero aftertaste... a clean beverage for running or hiking. they make a spectrum of flavors that range in intensity: citrus, lemonade, fruit punch, and orange. the citrus is something that has no aftertaste but is less strong a flavor than lemonade than fruit punch than orange. so you can choose the taste you like and the "weight" of the thing in your stomach. when you are in hot conditions where you know the H2O is going to get warm go with a stronger flavor as it makes the water more paletable and hence easier to drink more of it. i hate drinking warm water on a hot day... blech!” 3:22:34 PM 5/06/08 “Yogi, I will drop you an email in a few. Thanks for the sample. here is a link to endurox R-4. http://www.accelsport.com/product-info/EnduroxR4.html” 5:14:46 PM 5/06/08 “1% chocolate milk is also a good cheap alternative.” 5:26:08 PM 5/06/08 “what flavor of the r4 do you like most?” 7:36:34 PM 5/06/08 “oh and you said you found a good gel... which one did you choose?” 7:37:44 PM 5/06/08 “I like the "red" flavor R-4 probably fruit punch. The only gel I use ( and I have tried 15 ro so) is Carb boom vanilla orane, tastes like a cream cicle. Has caffeine and doesnt have the consistency of vaseline... http://www.carbboom.com/products/energy_gel.html” 3:04:36 AM 5/07/08 “cranked out 13.25 this morning but was feeling low. i tried out my new camelbak ... "lobo"... it worked very well and i had the luxury of 2l of vitalyte to run with... and i do mean a luxury. it was a clean run to make 36 for the week but i am really pooped and i am not going to push 40. i could jog the four but i think it is obvious i am overtraing. i should not feel this tired.” 10:58:05 AM 5/10/08 “amazingly i feel great today. it's raining so i'll go out and run 4 miles... slow and easy. put on some tunes and take it easy. i must have just been feeling run down or something (no pun intended).” 8:19:13 AM 5/11/08 “When I couldn't get myself to take a day off, I just did enough to get me off my own butt. I'd run slow and throw in some nice easy walks. Caloric burn/mile is pretty close to the same, just takes longer.” 9:10:38 AM 5/11/08 “so i have a question and i am thinking that sasassfrasasfas may have the answer. i have suffered from pain in my RIGHT knee for years. left knee seems fine. this year i do have some pain but i have finally established a pattern but it is a total mystery. my right knee -only- hurts when i start running. now when i start climbing or hiking or walking up/down stairs, etc. then the pain is dull but for sure in the knee itself. if i start out running slowly with an awkward gait... kind of wobbley... it does not hurt and feels a little "stiff". in about 1/4 mile i can tell it's looser and i can tear out for as long as i want with no problems and no pain after the run. wtf is going on here? i think it's good that i have a way to manage this but i don't know if i am really managing anything or just avoiding something. because it goes away in about 1/4 mile of easy running i am thinking i might need to strech something out... would tight hamstrings do this? my hams have always been tight because i never strech ever. stupid i know but there you have it. sass will prolly know the answer so i hope she reads this when she gets back from rrg.” 10:27:05 AM 5/11/08 “bump” 5:53:39 AM 5/12/08 “I'll make sure she sees this yogi.” 4:05:29 PM 5/12/08 “thanks birch” 4:37:40 PM 5/12/08 “I know nothing. Sorry, yogisan, I don't know. My best guess is maybe a tiny bit of arthritis? But, seriously, don't take my word for much. Birch showed me a cool tool at Runner's World about knee pain. It tells what injuries you may have depending on where your pain is, and describes the injury in depth. See if it helps at all: http://www.runnersworld.com/runnersbody/tool.html” 12:54:32 PM 5/13/08 “i'll check that out. thanks!” 12:58:31 PM 5/13/08 “Sounds like something I experienced. Before surgery, doc. said the pain and stiffness was due to tendon being caught up at an awkward position. It still happens from time to time on my right knee.” 1:22:31 PM 5/13/08 “wk: we got the bb card picture thing. damn cute little tyke! we sure would like to see him... visit... hint hint, wink wink!” 7:10:58 PM 5/13/08 “He is beautiful. Nice work!” 7:31:25 AM 5/14/08 “I know buddy. As soon as we knock out this weekend, I will let you know what our schedule looks like. Thanks guys! She made the kids beautiful, I had nothing to do with it” 8:09:06 AM 5/14/08 “he is telling the truth folks...” 6:11:52 PM 5/14/08 “Another amazing run this afternoon. I knocked out a quick 4 today in 29:38, felt absolutely horrible but I got it done. Being really pissed helps a bunch.” 2:54:00 PM 5/15/08 “5.5 for me today. not very fast. i didn't even time the run. dude, you can prolly run a sub 20 5k if you can run 4 in 29:38. impressive!” 3:20:20 PM 5/15/08 “I hope so yogi. My goal for this sat is 2m in 13:18. I will just have to get good and angry first...thanks btw. last edited: 5/15/08 3:29:53 PM” 3:22:47 PM 5/15/08 “I ran a sub-39 10-K when I was almost 40. That's about as good as it got. As much as I loved running once I got out there, I am inherently lazy. Same way with hiking. Anything good for me I have to fight myself over. But beer and another substance come oh so damn easy. last edited: 5/15/08 3:45:50 PM” 3:44:45 PM 5/15/08 “i ran a sub 20 5k a few years ago before i broke my foot... 3 days later... that was as good as it ever got for me and probably ever well. frankly, i am just thrilled to be running regularly again. i did my annual physical the other day and the doctor, whom i have gone to for 10 years, said the difference from when i am running to when i am not is remarkable. i agree.” 3:54:01 PM 5/15/08 “btw, i am trying to think of something to say to birch to make him mad... "Do you have any nekkid photos of your wife? No? Wanna see some?" That sort of thing but i know if he catches me he can pound me -and- i know he could catch me soooo... no thank you!” 3:56:22 PM 5/15/08 “What is life without risk?” 4:10:22 PM 5/15/08 “I've been off the back on this one. Now we're hitting the triple digits (can;t fuggin believe it -- it's MAY) so I can't run after work anymore unless I want to die. So, I either have to run a) in the early, early a.m. or b) later at night. I am going to try and do the later eve thing, I think.” 4:13:32 PM 5/15/08 “btw, i am trying to think of something to say to birch to make him mad... Just tell him you've been spooning with Nigal...That'll p!ss him right off! As for running I'm just glad to be running on a regular schedule again....still slow as heck but I'm gettin there.” 5:17:07 PM 5/15/08 “I can agree about the whole motivation thing nimble. If I think about I wont go, I try not to give myself the option. Yogi, upluver is close to correct about getting me angry with nigal, there is a bond only two men can know... the easiest way is remind me that 25 of my coworkers are losing their jobs so that the supervisory union can get one new position putting the supervisor to supervised ratio at a very stable 44 chiefs to 62 indians. Sounds right and fair, no really.... good luck rosey, the heat is a bugger for sure, you have humidity too right?” 5:31:44 PM 5/15/08 “wow, that is awful” 6:57:57 PM 5/15/08 “yep its #&%!$ed up yogi, we are losing people who have been with us for 11 years. I am no longer active in our union but have spent some time strategizing with our locals leadership and we have onse shot next monday to try to stop this. I hope it works. Very discouraging for a company man like myself. last edited: 5/15/08 7:14:07 PM” 7:14:00 PM 5/15/08 “best of luck with this. reminds me of John Mellencamp's "authority song..."” 7:27:20 PM 5/15/08 Jump to Page << prev
