30 years
Since TT does not duck controversy (heya'll we're usually the ones throwin it!) I figgered I should mention the 30th anniversary.

For me, abortion has huge moral and spiritual dimensions - sometimes its the wrong thing to do, sometimes the right thing - lotsa times who the hey'all am I to even try to judge?

A minister (Disciples of Christ)who I greatly respect and admire is involved in a commemoration tonight (in St. Louis). A singer I recommended is donating her time (plane tickey paid for though).

All heck, just kill all babies, they are just trouble anyway.......in fact, since babies have caused so much trouble and anguish in this country, we should demand reparations from them. All people who use to be babies should have to pay non-use-to-be-babies money and pay for their counseling to be able to cope in a society of non-use-to-be-babies, and then be put to death immediately for having caused all of the problems we have in todays society. So, I am proclaiming that all future babies and past babies be done away with NOW.

Tell that to a friend of mine who is the survivor of an abortion. She has CP and her statement is that she had rights too.

Let's kick up some dust....
I think that it is wrong for the Government to tell a women what to do with there body. Plain wrong. One the last parts of male dominance. The church needs to stay out of it, it does not speak for everyone in this country. They can have there say, that's fine, preach it to your following, don't invade my life with those suppressive beliefs. I believe that EVERYONE has the right to choose in this country. I (or my wife for that matter) would not advise an abortion for people, but we both feel that that decision needs to be made by the people involed, not by me or her. She marched in pro choice marches in the early '90's. Being a new Father again and seeing the Ultrasound of my boy, I can see where people say that life begins at conseption and I do agree. Unwanted babies in this world is worse than abortion because with abortion, it only effects the "parnets involed, with unwanted children, they effect us all.

Flame away........

I support a woman's right to choose, but a woman I dated had had an abortion before we met and on the anniversary each year she fell apart. She said after the abortion she felt she had done the wrong thing, and no amount of consoling or logic would change her mind. She said it was just like if the baby had been born and then died. That's a heavy load to carry for the rest of a life.

Then again, everyone is different.

The point of Roe v Wade was that rich women were going to Sweden and poor women were using coat hangers. Thus if rich women were getting abortions then poor women should be able to get them too.

Fast forward to today. If "they" can come up with a way that NO woman can get an abortion then and only then can we talk about the morality of it.

Just a side note: Aren't "they" the ones that want to get government off our back?

Just not in the bedroom!?!

it should be a law that the father has to do away with the mother after the baby is born.

I believe abortion is wrong and should be heavily discouraged. All easily-available abortions did was diminish the value of human life at all levels and tell women its ok to shuck off personal responsibility.

THere are a very few occasions when abortion has to be accepted and is necessary.

"But it's my body!"
Once your pregnant, its not your body any more. It now belongs to someone else for nine months. DOn't want to keep it? Fine. Carry to term and put the baby up for adoption. Don't want to bo bothered with the responsibility? Too damn bad. You knew what sex's purpose was in the first place and you succeeded.

If there is any truth to that, it owuld have to have been an illegal abortion... Choice is about keeping it safe and legal.

The hell it did. This is a baseless assertion - propaganda.

FWIW, here's my $.02: I don't like abortion; it's too bad it ever has to take place. However, it should definitely be legal and available to all economic strata. The reason for this is simple: there are no moral absolutes on abortion. Consider this: in nearly every civilized culture, one will find nearly universal opposition to murder, and no debate about murder's legality. But on the other hand, in nearly every civilized culture, one will find a significant moral division on abortion, and a debate on its legality. Since there's no single correct morality on abortion, then individuals in a free society MUST be given the individual freedom to choose. It's as simple as that.

I note, in the Bible, the penalty for accidentally killing a person was much more serious than accidentally killing a fetus (causing a miscarriage).

No the failed abortion occurred in a California abortion hospital late into the third trimester. She's in her late 20s. According to her adoptive mother's account through discussion with a nurse, her 16 year old biological mother received the saline injection into the womb and had a long delay before delivering. She sat in the equivalent of a trash can for quiet sometime before the nurse had enough compassion to call an ambulance (not something authorized for her to do). Although she does have some significant burns on her arms, back and legs from the saline injection, it’s a miracle that it doesn't cover her entire body. BTW she is a public speaker on the issue.

I think it is surprising that abortion is not "new." When women were not ready for a pregnancy because of bad environment or other complications, etc., I read that valerian root was taken to induce a miscarriage a long time ago...

However, my opinion about this subject is that it is your own choice about what mother and the father want for their lives. It's nobody else's business but the parents involved, and the people it will directly affect.

I don't think it's my place to make that decision. I don't think it's the Governments place to make that decision.

I can't stop someone from this choice, even if I could I don't think I would. If I had that kind of power I would make people be good parents when they had kids. Based on results GW Bush is a horrible father, who is he to force other people to be parents when he can't handle the job?

Trailhound: I am a bit skeptical of the story, but obviously I don't know. Two key points:

1) Most pro-choice people are very comfortable with laws and regulations restricting abortions late in the third trimester.

2) Roe v. Wade doesn't protect abortions occuring at the time you indicated (late third trimester) - unless its necessary for the life of the mother. I don't see Roe v. Wade prohibiting law as and regulations from insisting that a viable child in late third trimester (and one who can survive being in a dumpster is clearly very viable) be delivered by C-section.

In other words, Roe v. Wade and most pro-choice people would say she had rights - that ought to be protected - at her point in development.

3) The story you tell seems like a violation of medical procedures.

Ooops forgot one point: worse things happened in the days of illegal abortions, and this - in my view - was an illegal abortion because it failed to meet medical standards of care.

G W's kids were probably raised by "wetback" nannies.

Someone told him he needed a wet nurse and he though they said, "wetback".
