Computer Printers

“I would like to know what type of printer you have and what you think about it....

I am looking at purchasing a Canon F60 Mulitfunction Printer.

It doesn't have fax capabilities but I have Windows XP and I believe I can fax through that?

Any help, comments, or advice would be appreciated before I make my purchase.

Also where should I buy?”

“Adventurist, I have one of thos multifunction printer/scanner/copiers (HP Officejet R60) It works really well for me, and the clarity is pretty good. If you want the best quality print, you need to get laserjet, mine is bubblejet.”

“It is a copier/scanner/printer/fax. I don't really use the fax part because the computer has to be turned on and it also must answer the phone. The photo software that came with it is pretty cool, and it prints faster than my old Cannon CBJ 4200. It was part of my new computers package deal.”

“check the cost for ink refills... some printers are very expensive to run!”

“Yep, the cheap printers can actually cost less than the ink refills, so be sure and check operating costs before you buy. A good thing to look for in a color printer is separate tanks for the different colors of ink. Those are usually the more expensive printers, but they cost less to use in the long run. Also, it's best if the printer at least has a separate black ink tank. Otherwise, the printer is using up your colored ink to make black.”

“I believe a buddy of mine had a Canon and was pleased with it. Have you tried looking at some of the online review sites to see if you can find a review of the printer?”

“Jesus, adventurist. Try doing at least SOME research before you go pestering everyone. If you're too ignorant to choose something as simple as a printer, then you're too ignorant to own a computer in the first place.”

“Actually I have done research. I wouldn't have asked a non-backpacking question here unless I have exhausted all other means of finding info. I just figured that everyone here must be using a computer and most likely has a printer.
I was just about to order it this morning but since I am a full time student and NOT indepently wealthy I figured I would ask here before I place my order....

“It really depends on what you want to get out of your printer. Photos, text, graphics etc?”

Eventually for better scanning quality I will be getting a film/slide scanner but for now I just need something my wife and I can use for basic document printing and scanning needs.

Right now we have HP OfficeJet 660C...
Its outdated, slow and doesn't jive well with the Windows XP.”

“I was reading a review for the Canon F60 and the reviewer said that the photos they printed on it came out just as good or better than photos developed in a darkroom....

That was at highest quality settings....”

“Unless it is prohibitively expensive to operate for just printing text, I'd go with it then, Adventurist. Sounds like it will meet your needs. You can degrade the quality if you need to, yes?”

Like I said... I just wanted to see if anything negative was to be said about the printer.

My biggest concern was with it working 100% with XP...

I guess I will find out!

By the way cheapest price I could find on this printer is $270 total with shipping...”
