Boot Dope
Just a heads up for anyone interested. Recently made a few backpacking trips after trying a different boot waterproofer called "Montana Pitch Blend". Made out of mink oil and pine tar with a little beeswax. I don't work for those guys or anything but after using Nikwax paste for years I have to admit this stuff seems to stick to my boots much longer. Must be the pine squeezins' I guess. Couldn't find it in any stores so I bought some off the net. Check out their website and see what you think.

I thought it was gonna be a new way to smuggle dope. Stick in your boots when crossing the border... or carrying in them onboard plane...

A while back I was talking to the owner of a couple of outdoor gear stores. In conversation about my boots that had been bought a few months earlier I asked why they only carried an assortment of water based conditioners. His reply was that the oils, waxes, and petroleum based conditioners in the long run ruin leather. I know a few folks who have attended the Phil Oren Fit System seminars also swear by this also. However, my question has always been how long is "in the long run"? Are we talking about within the life of the boots or are we talking about within my lifetime that the leather will determinate? Anyone with some experience on this?
