I have just started reading John Muir's "Thousand Mile Hike to the Gulf" That rascal could scoot. He hiked from Lexington Kentucky to Savannah, GA in about 5 weeks. He started 9/1/1867 and got to the Atlantic Coast 10/8/1867. He then takes a boat to the Jacksonville area and hikes across Florida. It's pretty impressive so far. One section talks about him having a 40 mile day with no food.

i just finished that one - very interesting how that guy made it through, he had something to him... it must have been tough, but still enjoyable

Great Book. I read it on a solo hike from Wyah Bald to Albert Mtn., Ga., and back. Perfect trail reading. Yeah, he could step when he needed to.

Sounds like just another day in the life of Lee's Army of Northern Virginia.

Lee's Army was impressive.

Funny, you don't hear much about Bubba's Army of South Alabama.

keep in mind that in those days walking was how most people got around. Most WALKED from ST JO to the "Golden, (broke), State in less than six months. In this area the miners would walk 10-15 miles on a Friday night just to get drunk. I find meny of the trails a hard day hike.

I heard they just changed some of the marriage laws in Alabama... now, if you get divorced, you can still be brother and sister...

Actually, that's more of a Northern California thing. We're still cousins here in Alabama.
