ummm Tango - I thought it was walkindude and not chili that commented on your style of eating grits - in fact I thought you threatened walkindude with a new name as a result

I used to do the sugar thing until I married a southern girl. Tried butter and pepper once and haven't gone back.

A touch of butter, ground pepper and some green pepper Tabasco sauce. I'll have to give that bit of bacon grease a whirl. Not many places serve them in NH...I have to get my grits at home. Thank goodness I married a southern woman.

A company that makes a lot of good southern cured ham products is Stadlers. They have ham-bits, like bacon bits, in small jars. Added to instant grits... oh, yea. Don't need nothin' else.

Why do all y'all think that grits are a southern dish or that you have any idea how to eat them?

Grits trees were first discovered growing wild in New York state. Before harvesting costs forced production to South America, grits orchards stretched from New Jersey north to Connecticut and west to Ohio.
