I thought you had watched one too many "Yankee Workshop" programs.

Shields Up from GRC.com. I highly recommend downloading the IP agent and running that.

Also, lots of great information on Cable Modems and DSL from speedguide.net

With GRC.net, they can probe your ports and test your shields. If that's the type of thing you're looking for. ;-)

Actually, I do have a biscuit cutter, but it's for biscuits, not for woodworking, lol....

I want a cookie cutter. I'm about to eliminate them all and make all the cookie programs start over.

I would like to trim my program start-up list, too. But, how can I determine which programs are needed from those that can be cut? (I do not have an original disk for this system.)

PC-cillinn
I have always had good luck with pc-cillin (trend). NOTHING has ever gotten thru it's virus protection to my computers in the last ten years. I used to use black ice "and" zone alarm pro firewalls but Pc-cillin now has it's own firewall. To use them "together" is a nightmare. (several hours of fixing) I just tested it against that shields-up site and everything came up as perfect. Blocked, closed, hidden or will not respond. My kind of system.

OK, so I got this Netgear wireless router for home that worked for about 10 months, then died. It took too long for the Netgear people to help me in the troubleshooting phase, so I asked Dell (I bought it through them at the same time I ordered my work laptop) if they would honor the warranty and give me a refund. No problemo, they said. In fact, they had the UPS guy here to pick up the busted one around 4 hours after emailing me that they would indeed honor the warranty. Also, they were so quick on the draw that they shipped me a new router before they understood that I had already bought a LinkSys router on my own, so I just wanted my money back. No problemo, they said. When you receive the replacement, let us know, and we'll give you instructions on how to return it. So the replacement comes in, and a couple hours later, I get an email saying "Thanks, we picked up the replacement; your credit card will be credited within a few days." OK, so the router is still sitting in my office, and I'm wondering what it was that they picked up. Today, I got an email saying "We just credited your credit card - sorry the router didn't work for you. Blah blah blah...."

I am going to return it, but I think I'll wait a few days to see if they figure out that they don't actually have the new one they sent out. Hee hee hee.....

Wow, they were THAT good to you and STILL you will steal from them given the chance?

j/k, seemed out of character for you, so I re-read your post, I see that you are just toying with them. :-)
