I know some of you think I'm a troll but I really am legit and I have some legit beginers questions. Maybe its my lack of expirience that makes some of you decide I am not worthy to be here- so much for "are newbies welcome" I know the answer to that now...

Anyway I do live in Sacramento and I was wondering if anybody in the area knows of a good trail to hike around here? A couple of friends and I want to go dayhiking. Also I think It will probebly be raining so I don't want a trail too hard or too many streams to cross if they are running high. Suggestions please?

Don't worry about the newbie thing. I picked my username solely so that people would realize I was a newbie, and maybe layoff. It didn't work. Oh well. I have taken several trips with these folks and had a good time at least 1/3 of the time. Seriously, everyone has been great.

I live in Alabama and can't help with the trails, but will pass on that the best way to fit in is to do what you have done. Just jump in like a veteran. All of the ones who've survived have done it that way. Welcome aboard.

If simer could tough it out with the abuse we piled on him, anyone can survive here.

I'm on the opposite coast, so no help from me as far as what trails to conquer. But good luck and have fun. Don't take the jibes you recieve from being a newbie here to heart, most here would be more than happy to help you out with info at the drop of a hat.

As a sidenote, as it's been eluded to, Newgirl underwent a pretty intense hazing when she first started posting here. She survived, and is now a crowd favorite.

Cool, 2 Alabama and 1 Tennessee responses. There is something to this hospitality thing.

lol dayhiker, I dunno if my being a smartass could really be considered a response to hikingirl...

As far as hiking goes, I'm in the same state as dayhiker, so I can't help you out. There are a couple of TT'ers from the Sacramento area, aren't there? Rockman is isn't he? Can't recall exactly...

Can't leave "The Hospitality State" Out!
I'll still think she/he/it is a troll. Post a pix, or go on a TT hike, and fill out your profile and I'll welcome you with open arms (after April). Hee Hee.

stove darling, she did fill out her profile.
Hikingirl, they just want to see what you look like. Then they will all drool for a while (well some may never stop) then they will leave you alone.

hmm after the photo of me with red hair came out no one wanted to see anymore of my pics...

Damn you all!!

simer, who are you calling a crazy ba$tard?

At least I don't have a male dog that likes to get humped as much as Forest does.

Maple, please don't try to burn your bra while you are still wearing it, you could get burned...and that would make treebeard really sad...

Maple - she/he/it must have done it in the last 15 min.

I still think she/he/it is BB trolling with his "partner in crime" chili in on the joke.

Hey Maple, post some before and after pixs of this weekend. We can compare what frozen bits of you fell off.

If I do go hiking- besides sprayind Nikwax or whatever on my boots- is there anyway to keep the mud from getting in them?
hikingirl

gators. They are about $20 at a gear store. I don't bother with them though
dayhiker

Gaiters are good. There are two kinds, high gaiters, and low gaiters. Low gaiters keep stuff out of your boots. High gaiters will help keep your legs or pants from getting torn up while bushwhacking or walking on a rough trail. I have high gaiters, and love 'em.

The cheap gaiters are a pair of old socks with the toes cut off so you can pull them over the top of your boots. These will not keep water out but will help keep mud and rocks out. Best to order on-line for the best deal at www.campmor.com Or if you are in a rush, you can go to REI and buy a pair.

See the "my profile" thread for some hike suggestions...

Well, I'm out of here for the night. Got to get my butt over to my friends house so we can decide what trail to hike tomorrow. Bye all have a good Sunday if you don't hear from me (like if I get eatten by a bear or get swallowed up by a mud pit)
