Artex, bag the run and drive to the liquor store! There will be more winter weather ahead. You've just experienced a good reason to carry some big safety pins in your ditty bag.

If bacpac needs to take cheap shots over the internet, let him. It's obvious by his picture on Phil's page that he's one ugly SOB who probably hasn't been laid in a very long while. I'll let him have his fun."

No snow here. It came down just a little north of here, in the same county, today and yesterday, I believe. Check the picture here. I copied it, but it self-destructed real quick like.

Phaedrus, it's -5. I just called REI and explained the situation. They said they'd replace it. I'm debating whether to ask them if they'd give me store credit instead, and upgrade to another bag.

Arty, sorry to hear you pansied missed out on the trip. If I had been in your situation, I probably would have crawled into Pennsy's sleeping bag done the same thing.

Winter hiking is definitely full of challenges...and it can sometimes only takes one thing to fuss it all up. I wussed out on the trip this weekend, but I am ready for to freeze my a$$ off in Feb...

Hey nowslimmer, how often do you travel out of florida for trips?"
Phaedrus

1 to 4 times per year.

For bp'ing, I have been doing 2 to 4 months per year in GSMNP, sometimes in one trip, sometimes more.

Other trips were or will be for:
One daughter, whom I raised alone since '92, attended Johns Hopkins in Baltimore from '96 to 2000.
Another daughter, whom I recovered two years ago, is in the class of '05 at a college in Iowa.
I have relatives in the Twin Cities Area, MN, and in the Rep. of Panama. The "climate" has suddenly become warmer for me in both locations, so there may be some trips. I have a son, who is the head track coach at a large Univ. in SF, CA. He has been talking about flying me there this year for a visit and, possibly, some bp'ing.
I just quit work Dec. 20th and am on a very limited budget. So I am going to have to be careful with the expenditures. I'm ready to expand from GSMNP, but it is one place I know pretty well.

Currently, I have no out-of-state trips completely planned. I have 3 trips planned in the next few weeks. Next week to Everglades NP, then to the TT trip in Ocala NF, and one to a CW Battle Reenactment at Olustee, near Lake City, FL. (Saw HPM there last year.)

You can get to my fall trip pictures from here: 2002 GSMNP - 11. Photographs
There are links to the trip report, too.

Artex, you bailed on the trip because of a broken sleeping bag? You have that luxery! I have to eat dirt and sleep under maggot infested leaves, just so you can wipe your prissy a$$ with charmin everyday.

Could nave been worse, at least your not claustrophobic...

I had a partner get stuck in his bag, for over an hour, he was in there getting more and more claustrophobic by the minute while I laughed my ass off...18 years later and he still doesn't see the humor in it.

I think that Artex was right to bring the bag out without jury rigging it. He would have been fine, on the trip, but he might have worried that he wouldn't get REI to give him the full credit if he messed with the bag too much. It wasn't cheap, and if it were me, getting all of my money back would have been my concern. Remember, it was brand new. Those of you who have been getting refunds for many years on defective goods probably would have been less worried about that then Artex.

I gotta give Artex credit for having the guts to post this thread, knowing he just might get chided a tad. But then again, he posted it around 3am so who knows what his mind was like at that time. ;o)

I can tell you what his mind was like at 1:30am when he called me while on his way home. Holy moly, he cussed enough to make the Osbournes blush!! Of course, you should have heard me cuss after we hung up because I had to get up at 4 for the trip.

My timing will be better - I plan on breaking my zipper when AmyG is on the trip. ;o)

Adventurist - LOL on the "franks and beans" remark!!
And the non-wuss trip report will probably be up tomorrow. It ended up being an amazing weekend and we out-oonga-boonga-ed Artex. 3 degrees Sat night.
