I've seen them in adds. My tent is small with not a lot of room for my dog. I am wondering if anyone has used these for their own dogs when camping or if I could just set up a tarp for him so he wont muddy me up when he wants shelter?

I've always had PatchyG in the tent with me, but many people opt for tents with larger vestibules to house their doggies.

I've never heard of a dog tent! Maybe Buddur knows... (he's got the doggie sleeping bag, pad, and, of course, backpack.)

Only in California would a person need a "doggie" tent. I bet it's a toy poodle that sits on your lap while you drive and talk on your cell????????

Ahh, the joys of taking your dogs backpacking! I remember spending one night with 2 people and two large, wet labs in a 3 man tent in freezing rain in the Beartooths. It wasn't that cold out, but it was a Two Dog Night.

Aero
It could have been worse. It could have been two wet labs AND Crazy Mike. Now that would have been a Three Dog Night.

Gotcha all beat!
Last night, I had a FOUR dog night. Belle and Gizmo, natch, and Cooter and Chalupa - they slept over Sat and Sun nights.

The three small ones burrow under the covers and snuggle-up against me, and Belle curls-up at the foot. I throw the covers over her, and press my calves and feet against her.

That allows me to set the thermostat low at night, but sleep snuggly just the same.

On the trail, I share the tent.

Keep an eye out for my latest invention. It'll soon be available at REI, PetSmart, etc.

http://www.ruffwear.com/products/muttHut/ if you want to carry it. Otherwise bring a tarp and string up an A-frame or box frame or put the dog in the vestibule.
