“Geezr, I'm not arguing that point. I realize that is not always the best choice. I just wanted to point out that in our home it worked. I am a 100% honest about it too. We literally, NEVER, touched them, w/out Dad allowing us too. I can clearly recall understanding by the time I was 5 or 6 that the gun could KILL me or anyone else. I didn't view it as some interesting thing I could mess w/, I had witnessed clearly what it could do.”

newgirl: I am not trying to argue this with you, and I know your parents did a great job, but I think we do a great job. We educate our kids about weapons, drugs, and everything else you need to know. That does not mean that one day, for whatever reason, may it be a friend or another reason, those kids are not getting curious. I would never take that risk. I can be 100% confident in my kids, I still would not take that risk.
my husband was raised with guns and rifles, he was raised pretty much like you, and his parents never had a problem either.

“410 shells or .45 long colt (from the old west six shooters) WILL knock you off your feet. A lot better than my service .38 I have a Bond Derringer. It's actually much bigger & heavier than you would think. I carry double 00 buckshot (right now triple 000 buckshot) but I'll switch to birdshot or #6's in summer for snakes. Mine had a trigger guard but it got in the way, so I removed it (it only has 1 screw). The kick really isn't bad though. I have a 30 year old (bought new).357mag stainless service six. A stainless 9mm with a high cap magazine & a .22 auto. It used to be I could only get 3 guns on my concealed carry permit, but now that's changed. They want me to upgrade my pics, but I keep telling them that I haven't changed one little bit in 30 years. :-) I can pretty much carry any on my badge.”
