Codfish Creek Trail “TRIP REPORT!!!!! The day started early, it was about 7:50 AM. We decided to meet at free23's house before we left, we took her car a 2000 or something dogde neon. me, free, and old yeller. (Pictures will be posted as soon as I get my lazy ass to cosco and develop the film!). We headed out the door and down Sunrise Blvd. to I-80 hedding to the Town of Weimer. Now i said I would give you a low down on the geology and geography of the area, I-80 passes through(from Sacramento) whats called aluvial planes(which means a sediment filled valley) as we drove up Past Rocklin and Rosevile we started to see whats called core stones, random grannit stones scattered around gently rolling foothills, a part of the old teran( western jurassic about 175 mill. years old) existed before the sierras rose. At 1000 ft elevation we started to see mixed oak-conifer woodland. it would be another 20 miles to the town of Weimer listening to free23's john denver and other related " road trip songs" while we drove we passed through the smartville complex( a piece of old ocean crust now found on land) at the town of weimer we turned south( forgive me i forget the name of the road) and drive 3 miles or so till we hit a dirt road another 3 miles down the well gradded road. evedence of the old terane still exists here almost untouched by the metomorphic processes that happend when the sierra rose, shale domanates the area. I snap a photo of an outcrop. at the bottom, free parks the car by the brigde. old yeller worries about the car. we are alone out there, the air was frigid, and I was the only one with gloves(HA HA!). We head for the trail another .3 miles away. the trail follows the sunny slope of a v-shaped valley through witch the north fork of the american river runs. We follow the trail along the river, free23 in front, me in the middle, and the old man trailing in the back. A short time later we reach the turn off to Codfish creek, at the juction theres an out house, so no back woods pooping! it was only another ten minutes till we reached the falls. They where much bigger than i expected, I snaped photos of free, yeller and me. after a while we head back to the car and back up the the road. back at weimer we get back on I-80 and return to auburn and turn onto aubern ravine road to forest hill at this point we all open our sodas and injoy the ride, at forest hill we stop for gas, Gotta fill that tank! we turn onto mosquito rigde road , the "travel musics been gettin on me nerves but i didnt say anything wasnt my car. ack another dirt road! but this one was snowed in, too late to hoof it we turned around but not before i snaped a picture or two. Back on the highway wedicide to make a run to big trees but foiled again we decide to head home, down the serpentanite lined road. all in all it was a short trip but a fun one. pictures posted in about a week and a half!” 8:15:46 PM 2/03/03 “Dude, why in he!! did you go for the cg when you'rs obviously a geologist?” 9:47:17 PM 2/03/03 “what you didnt like the report?” 9:55:18 PM 2/03/03 “No, I'm pointing out the obvious based on your report. It was fine, save for a few spelling and grammatical errors. Your real interest appears to be geologic formations and composition.” 9:57:47 PM 2/03/03 “its my choice of major , geology with a focus on vulcanology” 9:59:44 PM 2/03/03 “Cool for you! I loved geology, way back (12 years ago!) when I took the course.” 10:00:47 PM 2/03/03 “now if more people would just read this thread!” 10:02:32 PM 2/03/03 “"travel musics been gettin on me nerves but i didnt say anything wasnt my car. ack another dirt road!" You were the one singing along with it! You forgot to mention how you thought the canyon was formed by the way the layers of shale were stacked and unbroken...you spent the whole hike talking about it. p.s. Don't they teach you to spell in college?” 11:48:05 PM 2/03/03 He said, she said.... “I like this idea of reality trip reports....different perspectives are always interesting...and amusing. Thanks for sharing.” 1:10:51 AM 2/04/03
