Went to the library this evening and picked up a few books. They had some great titles. Didn't realize the library had such a good selection.

A Walk in the Woods
Natural History of Mt. Leconte'
100 trails of Big South Fork
Backpackers Handbook
Hiking Tennessee
Hiking the Smokies
Into Thin Air
EVEREST-Mountain without Mercy

Anybody read any of these?

"A Walk in the Woods" is awesome and hilarious also!

However, "Into the Thin Air" is my favorite book of ALL time. Great great great book.

It Gets Better...
And you can even do an "inter-library loan" to get the books yer local library doesn't have on the shelf.

Oh my gosh!!! I've read the first 4 chapters of "A walk in the woods". I have been laughing my a$$ off. Especially the part where the guy gets pissed about the Little Debbies being left at home. I had to stop reading I was laughing so much.

Buddur, I use that alot! My library is kinda small, but I can get any book I want! I love the library since I read multiple books simultaneously.

What a bummer, I thought you were talking about a bar called The Library...

After I read "A Walk in the Woods", I went to the bar and discussed my new found fear of bears. I haven't read any of the others, as I am still dealing with this fear!

Our new library even has couches and a fireplace. How cozy. Now all they need is a coffee bar!

I'm reading "The White Rock" really good. By an explorer in Peru and the his findings. It relays recent theories on Inca culture in an entertaining manner. I highly suggest it for your reading lists.

Workin' in a library sure beats the hell out of work!

Though I do miss workin' with a buncha foul-mouth dudes, its nice to be with so many women......well for the most part!

We have a great international presence here too.
That would include a lot of people from the land of NYNJ.

Binkley, put "Cold Mountain" by Charles Frazier on your list of books to read. It's incredible and covers alot of your territory.

Don't worry Smiley, I had a drink at The Library in your honor when I was in Houghton.

As for Walk in the Woods, check the archives. Some TTers, including myself, had a very different opinion of that book. My copy is still available to anyone who sends me adequate postage.

The new Library isn't as cool as the old one was..
Did you have any of the onion soup, Pekka? That stuffs the best. Every couple of months they'd serve it in the dorms. Yummy!

I haven't read any of those books. I'm not really much of a reader. Wish I was more of one, though.

SG - is that Library related to the one in Novi on Grand River?

Nope, completely different. I'm not really much of a fan of that Library. :)

You're right, Smiley, the new Library is pretty devoid of character, to the point of being a bit pretentious for a town like Houghton. The Douglass House Saloon across the street, however, has still got some old fashion charm.
