The supernatural part is real, only its all in your brain. Its what you choose to let in that makes the natural super.

Pepsi - that leaves me with some wonderfully poetic images.

Last fall, while hiking, I saw two mating red tailed hawks doing a wonderful arial ballet, It felt like a huge privilege. I assume they were red tailed hawks, because I know they are often seen around where I was - but I am lousy at bird identification and can't say I know one hawk from another.

Wikipedia has a picture of a pair right where I was hiking (The Middlesex Fells):

The red-tails are beginning to court around here. I guess they have to start early in order to get the brood fledged by late summer. Vultures, too. They're about as acrobatically active as hawks, but they do it in silence whereas the hawks squawks.

Those pics of Dizzo have me in a courtin' mood, too ;)

thank you everyone, it's been a good day today. don't worry too much about the feathers, because i change the stuff on my hat once and a while, they weren't on there at the time. and even the feathers change as i give them away. only one feather have i ever missed, but i gave it to a good friend, it was worth it. i thought it was a cardinal, my sis in law sent it from back east, but my friend identified it as a flicker. i love bright and beautiful feathers the most. i can easily find turkey and hawk feathers if i ever get to hike again. btw, all of the feathers on my hat were found feathers, some by me, and some by Boy Scouts who gifted me throughout the years.

my hat was naked after i removed the Christmas decor i put on to try and cheer myself up. before that it held a peace sign patch that a very special Boy Scout had given me, his was the "Hippie Patrol", and the patch was special made, he tore it off of his shirt for me. he and his boys loved me in the skit i performed during the summer, i was "the hippie" of course. and no, i didn't choose the part, it was assigned by the program director, he had no idea i would show up in my original 30 year old clothing.

is it really ejecting Gremlin?! you had me looking all over for a flying shell, but it's right there in the rifle, LOL!

Pepsis, i feel the same way about shooting stars as my personal sign. but that's another long story.

how did my pics put you in a courtin mood Gojo?

pedxing, we all got really good at bird identification when T worked on the achievement in his Cub Scout workbook that had to do with it, that's the only reason i can tell my hawks apart. we have more than a dozen bird books now.

Meet Westley Strellis. For unknown reasons, the Georgia man yesterday afternoon smashed 29 flat-screen televisions during a rampage at a Walmart in suburban Atlanta.

i am able to get online with my computer, but it's like i'm in a whorehouse without a condom, i have no protection at all. there's not enough HD to download or upload virus protection. *sigh*

another rough week - very little sleep, fighting off a flu that I can't afford to take time off for, and more stress at work than I've ever had to deal with. Driving home yesterday, the sunset was absolutely beautiful, except to me it looked like a mushroom cloud. I wish that wasn't the first thing to come to mind - I tried to see a phoenix or the artwork of some imaginary divine being but all I saw was a thermonuclear explosion incinerating the valley below. I've got a desperately needed trip to Joshua Tree this weekend but if I'm still sick I think I'll have to put that off. God dammit. I need a new job and a shack on the colorado plateau somewhere. This isn't working.

well, I work a desk job doing stuff I usually enjoy to some extent. But because it's all project-driven (and because it's for a big evil company), the deadlines are ridiculous, and there are a lot of people with their fingers in the pot, so to speak - pushy people who throw their titles around to get what they want even when it isn't the best thing for the project of it puts me in unrealistic work deadlines. I've been desperately trying to get another job, but the market is total crap - and as long as I've got this obscene overinflated southern california rent to pay, I can't go into a field I'd enjoy more.

Soon, I'll get to work from home for this company, at which point the wife and I can move anywhere we want (Flagstaff keeps coming up)- somewhere a lot cheaper. Save up some money that way and pretty quickly I'll be able to ditch this gig for something a little less, how do I put it, soul devouring....

in the meantime, I get 4 weeks of vacation time to spend backpacking.

Mostly I'm just #&%!$ing because I feel like I've been run over by a tanker truck hauling gallons of liquit s h i t. I know this job isn't for me, and having a plan to get out is the first step. I probably shouldn't complain

not really sure, actually. I don't mind a computer job as long as I get lots of time to backpack and it doesn't infringe on my morals, ideals, or overall well being (which this place does... you'd probably crap a litter of kittens if I told you who I work for). If we're talking full-fledged ideals, an outdoors journalist would be perfect, but that's beyond pipe dream status. I'd settle for anything that let me go on my trips and didn't make me feel like I was dead at the end of the day
