I listed some facts in the above thebackpacker.com post and asked a simple question at the end. The responses condoned at backpacker.com consisted of name calling, insulting language and veiled swear words. I think everyone received enough information to answer the question whether backpacker.com is "a cut above the rest".”

While I do believe in freedom of speech I also believe that same freedom must be used responsibly. Attacking a moderator of any forum is poor form at best and frankly sounds more like trolling and sour grapes then a form of legitimate discourse to me at least. Perhaps my time as a moderator has colored my perceptions. After all I have lurked on that board on occaision and I havent seen bp2go abuse his position. I cant recall a single instance when bp2go has not acted in the sponsers best interest and in the least intrusive manner possible.

Surely being a prosecutor has taught you that being right doesnt always win the case. If you feel you have a honest gripe concerning that forum why didnt you contact the sponser directly or hash the matter out with bp2go in a private email? Publicly bashing him in this forum was wrong even if you did have a real complaint.

“DirtyOldMan, recently Bp2go himself boasted his forum was a "cut above the rest". Bp2go yesterday called someone who disagreed with him a "dipstick", and some of his posts contains veiled swear words. When Bp2go enters into the forum chatter, his statements are subject to challenge just like anyone elses. Let me quote one of his forum member's observations of what backpacker.com has become:

Last summer, Bp2go referred one of my email questions to Kris Wagner for response. Kris Wagner last reply to me by email was to not send him any long emails. Later, when I posted that Kris Wagner sent me an email threatening to ban me if I did not agree with him on the matter, he had Bp2go post his denial of that statement. You might remember that Bp2go PROMISED that we would hear from Kris Wagner with proof he said something different. When I replied I was waiting eagerly for that proof since I saved the email, Kris Wagner never did present that proof. He couldn't. A broken promise.

When the other side rebuffs email communications and later denies the contents of the email, communications are best public.”

DirtyOldMan, the cure to a post or poster that you disagree with is not reading the thread or not responding. There are a number of objectionable threads that Sasquatch talks about that I haven't made a single response to or even opened up to read. I vote with my eyes and keyboard fingers, not with my feet.

As to my reputation, you talked about it above when you said, "being right doesn't always win your case". I could not agree with you more. Please re-read my posts. No name calling, no conclusions, no unwarranted assumptions, and as a lawyer would put it, no defamation. "My case" was to shed some light on some facts and ask a question. Everyone gets to answer that question in their own way. You may notice I have not given my personal opinion to the question.

The cure to a moderator not being attacked is for the moderator to not particpate in the forum debates, an idea I suggested last year. I find it difficult for a referee to participate in the debate and still being the referee. It's called a conflict of interests. Would you like to watch a football game where the referees were also football players in the game?

Finally, I would point out that Rodale's management agrees with me on this point, that there are no sacred cows on their forums. With a nonsecond click of their cursor, Bp2go, Kris Wagner his boss, Jon Dorn the editor in chief, the CEO they hired from Mickey Mouse, or anyone in Rodale, Inc. could prevent me from posting over there, or to erase whatever I post. They have not done that in the past, and they have since allowed me on their new bicycle forum.”
