Thoughts on a stinkin' freezin' day....
This morning I think, "Man, is it just really cold out, or what?" OK, it was only -8 when I headed to work at 9 a.m. FREAKIN' MINUS 8!!!

OK, my thoughts have turned to spring...... ahhhhh.... nice weather. Time now to think about the "Secret DNR Hike" for then.

hehehhee... I've thought about this one for a bit. It's a point to point. A little connection of some trails on DNR lands that I don't think anyone has thought to put together before.

I'm guessing it would be maybe 6-9 miles. Not very far. Ample time for swimming and/or trout fishing (hmmmm... might be able to incorporate canoes, but it would only be for a couple miles).

Very pretty area. Some good hills (read that to be maybe a couple at 100-400 feet. It's Ioway, remember!!)

*Most* of this trip, you'd be as far from roads as you'll find yourself in Iowa. (much more so that at Yellow River State Forest, Mike!... OK,you do come up on one road, but it's brief. It's a remote one. You come onto it and do a 180 away from it.)

Anyhoooo... anyone curious? (I know you're all chomping at the bit to come backpacking overnight in Iowa....LOL!... NOT!)

But it sounds good to me. Just not in this weather!!

Yeah I'm still here. In the fine Sioux Land area... or as the airport calls it SUX

Had a busy last year between Job hunting getting married and moving 2 times. I'm having backpacking DT's really bad.

I've been lurking, just didn't have time or $$ to get away.

But if you're serious about setting up a trip in this fine state... I'll be there.

Thats the only way I could make the trek up there and be able to spend 2 whole days on the trail/water.

Well, you do have the Upper Iowa River. We'd hike along it for a couple miles on the "secret DNR hike."

BUT... if it were a weekend deal, you could also do an overnight canoe trip on the very scenic river in another location. If it were Memorial Day weekend, it would be full of people. This is a river, remember, that was up for "Scenic and Wild" status till local farmers shot that down.

Here's info and VERY PRETTY pics of the Upper Iowa River:

Capn B:
Iowa is that big cornfield between Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Missouri, Nebraska, and South Dakota. Cedar Rapids and Des Moines are towns consisting of corn silos wedged onto rock piles that are not conducive to raising corn. Iowa's state flower is the corn tassel and it's state animal is the corn borer. It's state budget is 6,483,387,391 bushels. Its biggest export is corn and its biggest import is fertilizer. Some Iowa attractions you might want to catch are the Corn Museum, the Corn Festival, the Crowning of the Corn Queen at the Iowa State Homecoming Game, the Corn Olympics (which is being renamed due to naming rights), and the annual Cornstalk Ball.

Just address it to Fertilizer Commissioner, Iowa State University, Des Moines, Iowa, Wherever the hell that is. It will get there. (Hint: if you write "Hawkeyes rule" with red crayon on the package, you will get really fast delivery)

Having recently visited NE Iowa, I'm worried about a "secret" DNR trip with swimming involved. It's only warm enough to go swimming in late July thru mid August, me thinks! ;-)

But then if you're Norwegian, ....

Writing "Hawkeye’s rule" on the envelope will only slow things down.

The University of Iowa Hawkeye’s are in Iowa City, Ia.
Iowa State University Cyclones are in Ames, Ia.
(the two schools don't really care much for each other)

Oh and the correct mailing address is:

Fertilizer Commissioner
CO: The University of Iowa State University
Ohio City, Idaho 90201

Or you could just address the envelope to Liz and she'll get it there…

Twinkle Toes puts olive oil in her corn muffins too?
Geobeet

no, TT rubs it all over herself when
she is a bit dry. Now...close your eyes, and imagine Twinkle Toes, naked, rubbing DiMalio's Extra Vigin Olive Oil all over herself, then going and standing under a cool water fall and how the water just bounces off her oily glistening body and when she exits the waterfall, how the water just beads up on her glowing body and drops, intimately, to the ground.
