Ok I have a 8 month-old chocolate lab puppy who I am trying to train as a good trail dog to accompany me on back country outings. He is used to a few other dogs but when he meets new dogs wants to start fighting. I need help in trying to figure out a method to train him not to be so aggresive towards other dogs. Suggestions?

Are his hackles up? Is he just playing? Rough-housing is how puppies excercise/determine their ranking in the pack. Where did you get him? Did he have ample time with his litter-mates and Mom to learn limits?
Puppies are fun. Enjoy.

put him on his back and tell him no when this happens..also this will teach him to listen to you and show that you are the boss.

Stand on his neck and beat his genitals with a stick. If that doesn't work try tough love.

Free23, I would recommend puppy or obedience class. It sounds like he may just need to learn how to deal with new dogs in general. Puppy classes are more about socialization than training, but some might not take an 8 month-old dog. I see you are in Citrus Heights, we live in Sacto and our 9-month Vizsla has had had a very positive experience with 4Paws University.

Choc Lab! You've got your hands full all right. Above all else you need to train it to come when called. As to the aggressive behavior dont expect it to go away as he is a he. (getting him fixed will mellow him a small amount) Your best bet will be to try and socialise him as much as possible. Perhaps finding a park where other dogs frequent may help.

LNT=Leave MICAH home :}

Seeing how young he is, i'm willing to bet he's being playfull. Keep him on a leash for now and when he goes after other dogs, don't let him. I highly recomend obedience classes regardless of anything else. He'll be much more socal around other dogs and people and be much more enjoyable to be with.

bring em around Khatru...
after a good dry humping, they will be best of friends...although, Khatru had issues with Scout. It was the first time that he was around another dog, that he didn't like...weird. If all else fails, bite your dog on the ear.
