I prefer to pay a little but my wife has always pushed for big refund. Since you need to pick your battles in marriage I choose not to battle on this one. May be an interest-free loan to the gov't but it is a guaranteed way to save for the big projects every year. New siding is on the list for this year.

turns out having a kid is pretty damn sweet...we're throwing around the idea of going to england this year and we got back enough for the airfare, car rental and most of the hotel expense

Sorry aero. My cousin is getting married in Italy this summer - it's all going to that!

I've heard they have wine and beer in Europe, too, though, so it won't be a total waste....

Well look who it is...that sexy beast, Aero! :-D

I get $800 back, but loser Tarpy owes $500, so really we only get $300. That should buy like 20 monkeys, at least.

Complete tax code gutting is in order but it won't happen any time soon. Some kind of tax code "emergency" will have to happen first, then they'll act on it.

Question: Whne is a tax refund not a tax refund.

Answer: When the wife tells me we're getting one, I ask if I can get a new gun and she says "no.". It's like I'm getting nothing back!

Pamela

Nigal, we solved that with an "allowance". We each get 20 per paycheck, when one of us wants something big we have to save it up. Then the other person has no say in how its spent.

This years taxes is going to be fun as I changed jobs, got a signing bonus from Deere but pay back a signing bonus to Case. We bought a house and got married. I think this will be the first year I go to a tax man to figure out if we need to fill married seperate or married joint.

H&R is a rip off.

I went there once, never again.
We have a nice accountant that does everything better, faster and for a helluva lot less then H&R block.

rebate [n. ree-beyt; v. ree-beyt, ri-beyt]

noun 1. a return of part of the original payment for some service or merchandise; partial refund.

I'm all for sticking it to the rich for being unfairly richer than me---they must be vilified and made to pay. Besides, it'll never come back to haunt me in any way, shape matter or form. By the same token, I don't like to see the poor benefit unfairly either. Please write your congressman (or congresswomen or Hillary) today to ask them to NOT give tax "rebates" to those who do not pay taxes, if indeed they will be giving us a tax rebate this year to stimulate the economy. (even though lowering taxes doesn't work.)

I agree. If you don't pay taxes, you shouldn't get a "rebate". My kids who are college students will get this "rebate" if passed. They both work, but their income is not enough where they have to pay taxes. It's stupid to give them a rebate for something they never paid. They don't deserve one.

The whole idea of "rebates" to stimulate the economy won't work any better than last time they tried this.

TRAILTALK POLL ...
Raise your hand if you are going to send your refund back to the government because you believe we should raise taxes to pay off the debt.

As Bush said, "I am pleased to report that the IRS accepts both checks and money orders."

I agree with CD and NonCon. If you didn't pay in, you shouldn't get one. If my mother gets a rebate I will take it away from her. I'd do the same with my kids, but they can beat me up (though they will be entitled to it).

Another election year ploy.

Message to the politicians: Stimulate "THIS"

Have you guys thought about the fact that to get this rebate you loaned it to the government interest free for the YEAR! Gosh you guys are nice!

Can anyone loan me a couple of hundred bucks for a year interest free? I know ol' Unca' Sam wouldn't do it for you!

Wouldn't be going through all of this BS had the cap gains and dividend rate been moved up to 20%- 2 years ago. Just that 5% raise would have saved going through all of this mess. Your country is being lead by idiots and you've more waiting in the starting blocks to make even a bigger mess out of things in the future.

We can't afford to buy oil and friendship (foreign aid) at the same time as we buy all of our shoes and crap from other third world slaves.

I still giggle to myself when I hear libbies and NEOCOMS saying "Tax cuts don't work." (i.e. letting people keep more of their money is not going to work)

YET...LOL..(and ain't this a hoot)...when they want to "STIMULATE the economy" what do they do...give back money to the citizens.!!!!
