Slickrock Basin

“I am interested in communicating with anyone who has done some serious hiking in the Slickrock basin area of NC. I am one of those headbangers who is into extreme hiking. I've not given Slickrock a try yet and would greatly appreciate the beta!? Lay it on me, Man? Anyone ever hiked Hangover Lead or Hangover Creek in the Cheoah Ranger District?”

“I went with a group out to slick rock and hiked the creek area...the first day in we did 7 creek crossings that were about to my ankle to mid calf about 5miles.. as soon as we set up camp it started raining and rained alll that night all the next day stoped that night the creek rose about 4ft..in some places. So instead of hiking up creek to the next campsite we decided to go the long way back the way we came ..the creek rose to my chest in places and was pretty rough... most of the trail had also washed out.. Then our leader tells us this happens most of the time when he was there.. if you want to know more write hikingfool at gregvic@wnclink.com he is wiz at the area and knows it well. It was a tough hike but it was worth the adventure. I was out there three days but I think if I would go back I would like a week to hike it all.”

“Thanks Clem. I'll see about that. Appreciate the info. I am well accustomed to rough, cold crossings and will not be bothered by that sort of thing. No problem. I have been offtrail hiking for quite some time now and any semblance of a trail is alot easier than what I usually do.”
