Okay. Then we hike on March 2nd. Let's start at noon for the churchgoers and late sleepers - and those sending girlfriends back to Wisconsin. Ahem.

Pontiac Lake seemed like a possibility from the other thread. Other suggestions are welcome.

Hi guys!

We never made a decision about where to hike. So, I'll make one. Pointe Mouillee has about a foot of snow on the ground right now. Lake Erie is completely frozen. The winds would bite just terribly. Anyone up for a flatland hike through the bitter elements? I'm thinking seven to ten miles.

Dudes! It's snowing like a mad fiend again. I can't see the other side of the lake. The winter seems to be balancing out. We've only had extremely cold temperatures so far. Now we are getting the regular heavy snows. Nice balanced diet of winter.

Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge Hike

Directions:

Take Telegraph Rd. or the Southfield Freeway (M-39) South to I-75 South. Exit at South Huron River Drive in South Rockwood. Take S. Huron River Drive east to Jefferson/US Turnpike. Take a right. Cross the mouth of the Huron River and start looking for a small access road to the left within a quarter mile. There is a small parking area here.

Notes: Be sure not to speed once you leave I-75. This is a notorious speed trap area. When it says 25 MPH, drive it. Also, wear warm clothes. There are not many trees and the winds off the lake can be constant and brutal. Snowshoes and skis would be a good idea if temperatures stay below freezing.

It's a Downriver thing!

Snowshoeing has been good this year in Michigan and I can't wait to go snowshoe in Hoist Lakes.

I hope you guys have fun on your day hike.
