LOL! Kathy!

I'll check out the conditions before the trip. We'll be in Mammoth from March 8-18.

That sounds fun. I do have plans to return to Yosemite and do Glacier Point in March, but if that falls through, count me in.

I guess I'm losing control of my clicking.

I think a trip that goes in 2 to 4 miles, with possible side trips from there would be great, but I'm in for any of the possible trips.

Rosey, your spoiled, it's only a 3-3.5 hour drive.

Snow Nymph, I'm jonesin' for a Mammoth Trip, I'm hopin I get to hit on the way to or from Death Valley at the end of March. How many days do you have in this season?

50 to 89 to 88 to 395 usually gets me to Mammoth in less then 5 hours, but that's from Woodland.

I'm marking my calendar for this trip. It's raining hard out right now, so I'm hoping to get up into the local mountains to sleep in the snow this weekend.

Yeah, Rosey. I wish it were only 3-3.5 hrs for us. We're doing 5 hrs, sometimes more (we can't afford speeding tickets for awhile).

Dunk, let us know if you make it to Mammoth. I've got 35 days in since last weekend. SnowDude has 27 days in. I'm planning to be up there thru Closing day, unless a snowshoe / backpack comes up on a non-powder weekend. In March we'll be up there for 10 days for the honeymoon. Hoping to beat my record of 67 days.

Driving home from the Ocotober TT Sierra hike Olive Oyl and I commented on how it seemed that the Southern California folk seemed to not bat an eye at driving 5 hours both ways for a weekend of hiking.

I guess I'm spolied but I like to be on the trail in two hours or less. Guess that's why most of my hiking is done around Tahoe.

HMmm, I better check, I have a backpack trip planned of the Grand Canyon. I think it is this weekend. URGGGHHHH, let's change this trip to the 15th of March...
GEEZ, Well maybe I will go up a week earlier than the rest of you!

Rosey, It's not like we're "settling" by going to Tahoe.

Snow Nymph, I'm heading up to Kirkwood tomorrow, NWS reports the Tahoe Area is to get 21" above 6000' by tomorrow morning. Kirkwood usually does better though. Tomorrow will be day 16 for me.

pepperDog, Hello 7 miles down the road, I was in Davis a 1/2 hour ago.

Just got back from a 3-day Backpacking trip on Cache Creek, saw 2 Bald Eagles and 1 Bear, oh and a Newt too. We only got a little bit of rain.

WHOA! One I can actually make?
Work really SUCKS this year, cutting WAYY into my personal time, but I am FREE 3/22-3/23. I will drive ANYWHERE to get out... coming from Sacratomato also, anybody that wants a ride is more than welcome, wherever we end up going.

My son prolly won't do this trip, which means I also have an extra pair of snowshoes someone can borrow. Email me if you want them.

Ruwau Lake would be my choice. It's at 11,044 feet and below the face of the Inconsolable Range.

A few months back I put together a map since this is one that has been of interest for quite a while. Lake Ruwau Map The file is kind of big.

The thing about this outing is while it's about 3 miles in, there are lots of great alternative places to go if there's a problem with access or group pace. Probably should get an early start though.

Here are Snow Nymph's Photos. They're really worth another look.

Ruwau Lake would be my choice on this one too. I only dayhiked it but thought it would be a great place to backpack.

Dunk, Mammoth had fresh pow this weekend! I really wish I could have called in sick tomorrow!

To do Ruwau we'll have to hike in from where the road closed on 168, won't we?

Has this trip died?

I think I'll do some research on how far in it would be to Rawau Lake with road closures and go there or up to the Rock Creek area if Rawau seem to far.

I've got it on my calendar, IN INK!

You're not getting out of taking me that easyily! No way! You're stuck taking me on my 1st snowshoe trip.

Sort of like the Sierrapalooza trip. Nobody post, it dies, someone brings it back to the top then there's a flurry of posts, then it dies again.

Bishop Creek Road (Hwy 168) is open to Aspendell. The South Fork Road is closed at Bishop Creek Lodge. It's not too far from Bishop Creek Lodge to Tyee Lakes (a couple miles) or Brown Lake or Green Lake are just a little further out. Ruwau is out there too, but further.

Here are road conditions:

I'd also be interested in a trip to Sequoia.

I'm OK with whatever trail you'd like, as long as it's short, all down hill, and scenic.
The-Naviguesser

Short and scenic will be fairly easy to find, but I don't think finding one that is downhill both ways will be very easy.
wingding0

Bishop Lodge is 5 miles from South Lake, so it looks like even Tyee Lakes are more than a couple miles in.

What about the Convict Lake area? Is there parking at the Lake?
wingding0
9:29:06 PM

If there is trailhead parking, then the first lake should be just a couple miles past Convict Lake. The website say the snow is good there.

Convict Lake has plenty of parking. About 3.5 miles up, there is a big stream crossing where the bridge washed out . There might be a few campsites along the way, but maybe for 1 or 2 tents.

The first of three Tyee Lakes is about 2 miles up.
