"It was my first thought too, bacpac....nuke the mideast, especially after hearing about the celebration by the Palestinians. Calmer heads will prevail.

I do think the perpetrators will rue the day they awoke the sleeping giant. Never underestimate the resolve of this great country."

I think you should refrain from reporting on any activities by the US military that you see right now. We don't want to unwittingly help our enemies. You should expect a lot of activity for the next couple of days at least.

I doubt they read Trail Talk but still... keep quiet on the phone too, we don't know who we are up against."

Sorry,

Don't think duct tape and plastic wrap is gonna save me in this appartment building that was assembled in 1928! I might have sealed windows, but the walls will continue to breathe.

OK, so explain this to me. If you plastic wrap yourself... your house... Well, if it's airtight, isn't that akin to wrapping yourself in a garment bag and suffocating yourself? And unless it's totally airtight, isn't it pointless????!

I stopped by my local Home Depot last night. They had a big display by the entrance with window wrap and duct tape labled "Homeland Security".

I'm just going to "duck and cover"! It's just as effective as "Duct and cover".

And what's with the FIVE colors? Why couldn't here just be three; Green, Yellow, and Red? Geez, talk about overkill!

The people developing this list were really focused on petroleam jelly, since it is listed twice. And they think that we should have a ton of bandages and gauze. Is this for a family of ten? Or are they expecting shortages after a national disaster?

I do plan to stock some water, and I think I have enough food, batteries, etc. I havn't looked at that list in detail yet. I'm not panicked, but I don't want to get caught unprepared, just in case.

Thanks for the response, guys!

Oh, I wanted to mention that I have little confidence in the Detroit Water and Sewerage system, who supplies the entire SE Michigan region with water. That's why I'm stocking up. I work with them on a daily basis, and they can't keep track of simple supply pressures to their communities, let alone some of the intracicies of keeping the supply safe from terrorists.

My company is now getting involved with "Vulnerability Assessments" of water systems. The Feds are requiring every system serving over 3300 customers to do this assessment and improvements. Basically, you have to think like a terrorist and figure out every way you could sabotage a system, and thus provide safeguards against those actions.

So they are NOW doing this? I think that we all should out water in storage. I've been in a couple of water emergencies already due to bad storms, and it just is good as a parent to at least have water, flashlights, food and first aid supplies on hand. I have to get more organized because I could not evacuate quickly if I needed to. Could you just imagine what the highways and roads would be like in the NY tri-state area if everyone felt the need to evacuate?

Ok just watched a show about what to do. The plastic wrap is to be used to seal a small room in your house not the whole house. It also has to be at least 4 mil not sahran wrap. The idea is to go into the room if there is an alert of a impending gas cloud, then hang out in there with a radio until the all clear is sounded. Hopefully this would only be for couple of hours, until the gas cloud passes.

All of the other things are for your evacuation bag if you have to move to a shelter.
I for one am going to cut some plastic sheeting that I have to size and put it and a roll of duct tape in my pantry closet since there is already food, candles, water, etc there with a battery operated radio.
I do not think that some Muslim terrorist is going to bomb my house but let see... there is Pratt Whittney up the street, Groton Sub base 30 minutes away and a nuclear plant. I guess I would rather be the pariniod one who had this stuff ready than to be the dead person that didn't.
They also anounced this morning that they expect something to happen this week if not by tommorow.

Good Luck everyone! Keep your heads! If it really gets bad I am going hiking!

Coke water sales up!
Just heard from NY Times WQXR WEB RADIO that coke water sales are up. (From one or more water companies that they have acquired.) Could not locate a news release, but the following shows that they do sell water. The company reported strong sales of juice, water and other non-carbonated beverages

Trying links again!

THIS SOUNDS
...amazingly familiar.

In the 1960's & 70's (as a young lad), I remember people building homes with "bomb shelters" in their basements. A list was published of everything we should have in our "shelter."

I also remember that there were two green metal garbage cans outside our home that had lots of verbage on it. It had been a container for 'safe' water. Once it was empty it was to be used as a comode. (No seat included.)

"The list" is too familiar.

Terrorist Attack or not - It's a good idea to have that stuff on hand for a natural disaster. The American Red Cross and FEMA has been recommending these measures for years in the event of natural disasters or a chemical (hazmat) incident. I've had a home disaster plan and supplies for several years, nothing fancy just the basics. I live in Tornado Alley and less than 1/2 mile from a major rail line. In the event of a natural disaster or Hazmat incident the wife and kids know what to do. If you would have a water pipe break or a gas leak, would your spouse and kids know what to do and where the shut off was? By having the plan/knowledge and supplies we're one step closer to being survivors instead of victims, or at the least keeping a water break from flooding the house.

Stump, bomb shelter building didn't end in the '70's. I have 2 choices in the case of major crap going down: head to the shelter w/ my paranoid father (he's been stalking it for several yrs. now) or just face the facts. We'll see what I do when we get there.

Report now available!
I did hear it right this morning before I posted above, while Matt was playing games with html. Coke is helped by selling water. The company was helped by acquisitions and strategic alliances during the year with Evian, Danone waters and Seagram's Mixers
