Everyone gets pissed off at the USA for lending a hand to others in need, maybe we should just close our borders, stop all aid, pull all of our troops back to our soil, and protect our own a$$e$ for a while.
I know that it would hurt us for a while but we would adapt to not having Korean cars, or Iraqi oil or Chinese TV's. But what would it do to their economies and countries.

I know this is way off thread but oh well.

I think I saw one of those in one of Powell's satellite photos - maybe there is an axis of evil. Perhaps they'll start saying that buying a Hyundai funds terrorists ... no car dealers ... no cheap cars ... no bin laden

listend to the radio this morning and they said only about 10% of americans are or will be prepaired in case of an attack.

I am really not sure what to do. I don't think a little Plastic lining on the windows will help to keep chemicals out.
On the other end, I don't want to have to look into my kids eyes and say "I did not preper, sorry"...

This is some scarry crab. Right now I would love to just grab my kids and hubby of course and hit the mountains. Too bad it's not that easy.

The more I think about this, the more I think it is a crock to rile up Americans and get them behind the invasion of Iraq. Seems to be working for some folks...

Who said earlier that there would be an attack by the end of the week? Where did that info come from?

Rosey, who's (of TT) is behind the invasion of Iraq with all "riling up" that seems to be happening?

For what it's worth, I have a different take on this matter. If you look at the history of recent terror attacks, one thing is consistent. They always operate with the element of surprise. It is the nature of the way these sick bastards work. There are no warnings. Chatter is not necessarily an indication of attack. These always seem to come out of left field. So, who knows, maybe this is being planted somewhat for disruptive purposes. It seems that spreading panic is also part of their agenda.

Yep, I agree Treebeard. They aren't called terrorists for nothing - they like to watch us sweat.

If chatter isn't necessarily an indication on an attack, why the he!! is the government putting out all these warnings? Seems like there could be a better way to get us to open our eyes.

I hope you guys don't think I'm panicking about this. I'm curious mostly. I still haven't stocked up on water, or even read that gawd-awful long list earlier on this thread!

I say if so much as a firecracker is set off by a terrorist in a Kansas wheat field, we nuke every country in the middle east, except Israel. We drop leaflets on these countries now to let them know we mean business.

Control your people or DIE!!!!!!!!!

When you think about it, what is the chance that your family will all be at home when a disaster hits? Could I seal up my room knowing that my kids are at school and my husband is at work? The whole idea is fraught with a zillion details that a worry wart can create mountains out of.

Better to have emergency supplies, water and the fixings for margeritas.

You have a right and good reason to be curious AND concerned, Smileygirl. The 21st century so far has proven to be a very scary place. As for why the government is saying what they are saying, I'm not sure what is the motivation. I know that as soon as the tape reported to be bin Laden came into light last night, they were all over it saying it is direct proof that Iraq = al Quada. So, maybe they are trying to reinforce the 'we're at war and don't forget it' thing. Problem is this administration is not immune to some unsubstantiated claims.

Having taken a chemical warfare course while in the Air Force, I can tell you a gas mask alone will offer quite limited protection.

I've spent hundreds of hours in a full chem suit while on a flight line in Germany (turning fighters with more ammo and gas). You have to have rubber gloves, rubberized tops and bottoms, boot smocks, and an over-the-head hood. You have to be sealed off completely.

Gas agents that are deployed are both topical and of the inhalant variety.

Nerve gas is what's most deadly. You're in a siezure in seconds. So, another question might also be how many of you have a stock of Atropine injectors?

BTW, that missile battery just taken out in Iraq yesterday was reported as a possible Nerve gas carrier.

Eh, FWIW.

Just say, hypothetically of course, that a certain school was planning a field trip to NYC to go to a big landmark museam. Would you let your kid go, request that the school switch to someplace else, or just keep your child home?

Actually I usually do have strong instincts about stuff, but not this time. Just uneasiness. I have a few weeks, so I'm going to talk to the school about redirecting the trip someplace else. It is a shame because the trip at first seemed like such a great idea. I don't like to be a nervous nelly, but I am very cautious with my kids.

"WE WOULD RATHER DO BUSINESS WITH 1000 AL QAEDA TERRORISTS THAN WITH A SINGLE AMERICAN"

This sign was prominently isplayed in the window of a business in
Philadelphia. You are probably outraged at the thought of such an
inflammatory statement.

One would think that anti-hate groups from all across the country
would be marching on this business... And that the National Guard might have to be called to keep the angry crowds back.

But, perhaps in these stressful times one might be tempted to let
the proprietors simply make their statement . . . We are a society who holds Freedom of Speech as perhaps our greatest liberty . . . And after all, it is just a sign. You may ask what kind of business would dare post such a
sign?....

Ultra, your thinking, is wrong. I don't usually tell people they are outright wrong. But you really are, man. You should think and then post more carefully.

I, for one, absolutely will not allow myself to get all freaked out and paranoid. I keep joking about my Dad, but the man has been living in "total preparedness" for years now. He was planning it for at least a decade before that. Awful. No way am I going to go about my daily life in that way. And don't anyone be mistaken, I'm not of the thinking that if I live in paranoia, the "terrorists" have won. It has nothing to do w/ patriotism. If some truly large scale, various "weapons of mass destruction" attack goes down, what is going to be left to live for anyway? Your life as you know it, will be over. If some big, but not end-of-the-world-as-we-know-it disaster goes down . . . I will cope w/ it as best I can, for as long as possible. And maybe then, I would mainly only do it to ensure my child's safety. Maybe I sound like a freak or something, but I'm not all for "survival in the midst of a war zone." I talked about this once before, but have any of you read Kosinski's "The Painted Bird?" Who wants to survive total crap like that, so that you can live the rest of your life all #&%!$ed in the head and sucidial. PEACE, is always possible and always the answer. Sometimes that means we have to give in on our side too. Something America . . . or at least Mr. President, don't get.
newgirl

2/12/03

newgirl, YOU are the one that doesn't get it. Give peace a chance, what the f*ck? We've given the Iraqis 12 years to disarm and they haven't done it. Al Queda attacked us on 9/11 without provocation. Some people on this earth need to understand that you can't f*ck with the U.S. or you and your family will pay a heavy price.

I can't understand why some people think Bush is the evil one while Hussein, Kim Jong Ill and bin ladin are loving people full of goodness. Maybe we can send these three homos a valentine and everything will be all Disney World for you and your child. Hey, it would of worked for Hitler, right?

I didn't say anything in my post about being freaked out or paranoid, nor am I stocking up on rations. We need to fight fire with massive amounts of fire. Give the terrorist angst for even the thought of bringing terrorism to the United States or her allies.

It sounds as if you've given up already. A few blows and your done. You are just the opposite of your father. Stop taking shame for your father out on me.

Tilt

2/13/03

I agree Tilt!
Ultra, this statement here, "WE'VE GIVEN THE IRAQIS . . .," is what I'm talking about. When was the U.S. appointed official policeman of the world? Why do we get to tell Iraq to disarm and set a time frame and all that? We have far more weapons and military might. You can give me all the info. you want about how they gas their people and Saddam is an insane fruitball and they might use the weapons to attack us and on and on . . . point is that fighting fire w/ fire leads to everyone missing an eye in their blind rage. Al Queda is some other story, they're trying to make a link so people who don't want to think on their own will support a war on Iraq. 9/11 is sad, horrifying, unimaginable (even after I saw it on live t.v.), but what is the heavy price the Afghan people had to pay? They had nothing to begin w/. What if a small group of American men decided to kill around 3,000 people in some random country they considered an enemy of America? What if then, that country flew over here and bombed the #&%!$ out of us and devastated our lives, economy, etc.? We pay a heavy price for those few unstable men.

I don't think Saddam and Jong and Osama and the rest of the gang are wonderful examples of the human race. But let's consider the man in this world of our's that can really, really go somewhere w/ his power trip. Bush is ultimately the man to watch out for, after all he can actually back it up. Know what I'm sayin' Vern?

I don't even follow your comment on Hitler. There is alot to be learned from the whole WWII sit. though. I, personally, am not up for that.

And I'm not ashamed of my father. I'm sorry for the manner in which he has chosen to live the last several yrs. of his life. I see how uncomfortable it is and I do not wish to emulate it. The portion of my above post about living in paranoia, was not directed at you, it was my feelings directed to the general TT audience. I haven't given up. Giving up is when you think there is no alternative to violence. Blessed are the Peacemakers, Ultra. Check out the word of God, Brother.
