The French

“Dear Dad,
 
A funny thing happened to me yesterday at Camp Bondsteel (Bosnia):
 
A French army officer walked up to me in the PX, and told me he thought we (Americans) were a bunch of cowboys and were going to provoke a war in Iraq. He said if such a thing happens, we wouldn't be able to count on the support of France.
 
I told him that it didn't surprise me. Since we had come to France's rescue in World War I, World War II, Vietnam, and the Cold War, their ingratitude and jealousy was due to surface [again] at some point in the near future anyway.
 
I also told him that is why France is a third-rate military power with a socialist economy and a bunch of pansies for soldiers.  I additionally told him that America, being a nation of deeds and action, not words, would do whatever it had to do, and France's support, if it ever came, was only for show anyway. Just like in ALL NATO exercises, the US would shoulder 85% of the burden, and provide 85% of the support, as evidenced by the fact that this French officer was shopping in the American PX, and not the other way around.
 
He began to get belligerent at that point, and I told him if he would like to, I would meet him outside in front of the Burger King and whip his ass in front of the entire Multi-National Brigade East, thus demonstrating that even the smallest American had more fight in him than the average Frenchman.
 
He called me a barbarian cowboy and walked away in a huff.   With friends like these, who needs enemies?

France and Germany play here is not to look like an American "tool". They both have a very diverse population that they do not want to piss off. Also, they might see this as a time to stake claim in the "New World Order..."

After September 11, Bush vowed to hunt down terrorists wherever they were. He declared that any state that wasn't with us, was against us.

I viewed those statements pretty cynically. The American attention span is a nano-second. Especially the american politician. Mind you . . .I agreed with the sentiments. WHole heartedly. As far as I am concerned . . .any country that can't keep their #&%!$ clean is fair game for a Special Ops squad insertion including France. I am completely in favor of a perpetual, never ending campaign of death against anyone who would contemplate perpetrating an act of terror against the US.

I am fully aware that advocating a "campaign of death" against terrorists sounds in and of itself like a terror campaign. GREAT! I hope it does. I hope every stinking member of Al queda is struck dumb by contemplating the terror of his death at our hands. That is a good result in my mind.

As for the French.

They are up to their necks in the economy of Iraq. This [balking on iraq, balking on the defense of Turkey] is stupid, two bit, economic grandstanding. If I were Bush I would be sorely tempted to read them the riot act, publicly.

I am not a big fan a of Bush's. However . . .he seems to be playing it fairly straightforwardly with regard to this policy item. He seems to be "saying what he means, and meanings what he says".

When he gets on national tv to read the riot act to the French . . .i would also be sorely tempted to tell the f-ing north koreans that if they so much as take a piss on the wrong side of the DMZ we will use tatical (battlefield) nuclear weapons to anilihate their troops and palace/seat of government.

Who the F do they think they are?

I would be somewhat concerned about wind drift from fallout (Seoul is what, 35 miles??) . . .but not enough to not do it.
