Unfortunately, we didn't realize it was a special fireworks night, so we weren't able to get great tickets. But who cares? It's baseball, and the Tigres are playing almost .500 ball!” 4:34:27 PM 5/09/05 “ ”4:41:05 PM 5/09/05 “It's true. The Cubs do suck.” 4:42:16 PM 5/09/05 “On Sunday they sucked less than the Phillies.” 5:56:42 PM 5/09/05 “No, they managed to not use their weakest link: the bullpen. That Carlos Zambrano, what a guy!” 6:32:39 PM 5/09/05 Bowlderman??? “OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) -- A fan threw a beer at Yankees slugger Jason Giambi in the eighth inning of New York's 15-6 victory over Oakland on Saturday night, the latest embarrassing incident in the Coliseum's recent problems with overzealous fans. Giambi was hit by the fan as he walked back to the Yankees' dugout after flying out. Several other fans immediately pointed out the offending spectator, who was brusquely removed by security and police.” 12:41:11 PM 5/15/05 “YAY!!!! He deserved it! Damn yankee fans in my coliseum >:(” 12:42:33 PM 5/15/05 “Sorry, just flew in from Detroit this afternoon (and boy are my arms tired!). We went to the Angels/Tigers game on Friday night - will post pics later. About 5 minutes before the start time of the game, the grounds crew came out and put the tarp on the field. Hmmm. Yes, they do apparently check the radar now and then, and there was a hum dinger of a storm blowing through. They "urged" everyone to take cover in the first level mezzanine, and some really really nasty looking clouds came over. It got very windy and dark and then rained for 2 hours. They finally called it at a little after 9 PM. And we had great seats, too! I guess it's only fair - last Tigers home game I went to was in '95. It was 104° at game time....” 6:54:06 PM 5/16/05 “ ”2:18:11 PM 5/17/05 “My brother and I are talking about taking a month off during the season (in a few years of course) and touring some parks with our boys.” 2:19:08 PM 5/17/05 “Sounds like fun. I don't think I'd be too interested in doing a marathon see-how-many-ballparks-you-can-see-in-a-month type of thing, but I do like going to a different park now and then. Next up I think will be a trek down to - horrors! - Dodger Stadium....” 2:21:58 PM 5/17/05 “Oh, we probably wouldn't try to see more than 10 parks in a month, tops.” 2:24:48 PM 5/17/05 “Ah, the memories of Chavez Ravine. I love Dodger Stadium. That is so cool you brought boulderboy to Detroit.” 2:26:18 PM 5/17/05 “Nothing like getting great seats for a thunder-bumper. I don't know what you're griping about. Watching rain fall has to be more exciting than watching the Phillies flounder around the field and having the idiot manager tell us fans we don't know baseball when he can't remember to walk out to the mound to give the ball to the relief pitcher and having the part time centerfielder who won't go near the wall to snag a fly ball tell us we're not cheering enough to suit him. They want ME to pay their inflated salaries??? Yo, guys, why dontcha do something to make me cheer, like win half the time!” 4:27:12 PM 5/17/05 “I love it when a major leaguer gets raked around the park, watches 3 strikes go by, boots an easy grounder, or drops a fly ball that hits his glove. I shout, "Hey, even I coulda done that!!"” 5:17:12 PM 5/17/05 “Yeah, I played harder than that at slow pitch softball for crying out loud. At least look like you're hustling fer cryin out loud.” 6:09:00 PM 5/17/05 “The Phlubs like to make me into a liar. They're crawling all over Jeff Suppan tonight, and the Cruds aren't giving him much help. If the Phillies win the World Series this year, they should vote Suppan a half share.” 7:37:57 PM 5/17/05 “It's great way to heckle the player too. Hey, <insert name of player here>, 0 fer 4, huh? Hell I'm a 42 year old computer programmer and I could do that good!* *Not advisable if you are heckling Ty Cobb.” 9:51:30 PM 5/17/05 “I can remember when we had a baseball team in Philadelphia.” 6:22:55 PM 5/24/05 “But that was a long time ago.” 8:35:37 AM 5/25/05 “We're hiring a dog to help Charlie Manuel find the pitcher's mound.” 6:11:51 PM 5/25/05 “With every game, I can see how Larry Bowa was the problem. Silly guy kept trying to get them to play baseball, whatever that is. They are now a trade of two away from sucking, which would be a vast improvement. Oh, this year it's not Larry's fault. This year it's the fans' fault. We don't cheer when they screw up.” 6:44:22 PM 5/25/05 “bronson arroyo looked terrible tonight” 9:08:09 PM 5/25/05 “Another W over Da Bums last night pulls Los Gigantes even with 'em. BTW, didja notice on the weekend when they unveiled the new statue of Juan Marichal at the ballpark, they wore uniforms with "Gigantes" on the front....” 8:35:26 AM 5/26/05 “The Phillies actually won a game in Florida. Quick, let me call and order World Series tickets![/sarcasm font]” 8:45:59 AM 5/26/05 Yea Baby. 9:17:07 AM 5/26/05 “Hey Geo, the Phillers beat the mighty Oreos just a few days ago.” 9:25:40 AM 5/26/05 “Don't feel too bad MarkO. The Oreos are still up there and the Fillies are still bringing up the rear. Everybody has a bad series every now and again.” 9:32:05 AM 5/26/05 “When Charlie Manuel gets tossed: "Goldurn you %#&^ing c*cks*cker, throw me out of the game so I don't have to watch this *@^%!"” 12:56:06 PM 5/26/05 “Gulliver Prep coach Lazer Collazo resigns BY MANNY NAVARRO Gulliver Prep baseball coach Lazer Callazo officialy resigned Wednesday, a week after his alledged involvement of improper behavior towards his players came to light. ''I am doing it for the kids and I am doing it for the school,'' Callazo told the Herald Wednesday morning. ``I am not going to coach anymore at the high school or college level. I am going to stay and work at my Hardball Academy and that's all I have to say.'' School officials said Tuesday Callazo had agreed to resign as coach at the beginning of June. ''This is a resignation he is fully aware of,'' Gulliver public relations director Jen Vaida said Tuesday. According to a Coral Gables police report, Collazo dropped his pants, took out his #&%!$ and accused his players of not having the testicular fortitude it takes to play baseball after a loss to Florida Christian on April 7. ''He then,'' according to a Coral Gables police report, ``pointed to his #&%!$, testicles and asked the team if they had a set of these or were they equipped with a vagina.'' Collazo, who led Gulliver to the Class 3A state championship last season, did not comment on the allegations.” 10:55:46 PM 5/26/05 “What's wrong with a coach showing the team his bat and balls?” 11:03:57 PM 5/26/05 “Yay, WoooooooooHooooooooooooooooooo, the Fillies didn't lose last night.” 9:12:16 AM 5/27/05 “Lets get ready to rumble Yanks-Sox series tied 3-3 13 games to go Go Yankees!!!! ”11:32:21 AM 5/27/05 “Geez, the A's were swept by Tampa. Things can't get much worse. I think Macha has to go.” 1:01:32 PM 5/27/05 “You mean Macha's not peachy? Get it? Machu Picchu?” 1:03:36 PM 5/27/05 “No way!! Macha's a civil engineer - woo hoo!!” 2:03:55 PM 5/27/05 “Firing a civil engineer would be uncivil!” 2:25:31 PM 5/27/05 “Two in a row, two in a row, I'm giddy! They may never lose again! They beat Smoltz, too (Braves fans should ask what's up with that).” 10:16:25 AM 5/28/05 “OMIGOD, ... THREE IN A ROW! I've died and gone to baseball heaven!” 10:38:29 PM 5/28/05 “Okay, back to losing again, and the trip home from a successful road trip. They always get out hopes up and then dash them at home. We'll see how this plays out. I wonder why there are no Red Sox suck graphics up today.” 8:47:09 AM 5/30/05 Tripleheader Trip Report! “On Saturday, we had a BowlderFamily tripleheader. First up was BowlderSon's game at 9 AM. It was against the 3rd place team, who had given us one of our 3 losses on the season. We spanked 'em, 11-3! BowlderSon was 3 for 3, and picked a runner off of 1st base when catching in the 5th inning. That puts us in a solid 2nd place, probably wrapping up that spot for the playoffs. Next was BowlderSon's batboy assignment for the local high school team's playoff game. They had won their first round game 3-2, but were up against the section's #2 seed. It was a great game, with the pitchers trading goose eggs inning after inning. In the 4th inning, with runners at 1st and 3rd, the other team tried a double steal. Our guys foiled it, though, with a nifty peg to the catcher (our neighbor and the coach's son). In the 5th, our neighbor came to bat with 2 outs and a runner on 2nd. He hit a 2-strike fastball into center field for a base hit. The throw to the plate... OUT! Well, many of the fans thought our guy was safe. I thought he was out, but, wow, a game of inches! It ended up going extra innings, and the other team eked out a run to win it, 1-0. Then it was up to Sacra-tomato for a company outing to the Rivercats game against the Salt Lake Stingers (AAA affiliates of the A's and Angels). It's a nice ballpark, and enjoyable to watch, except for the cool windy evening. We were exhausted, so left at the 7th inning stretch for the long drive home. The Rivercats won, 13-4. WHEW!” 2:16:41 PM 5/30/05 “I know how you felt Bowlder. I was covering a kid from our town who was in AA ball one year. I'd head out to Reading and Trenton whenever his team played there. At one point they played back to back series in both cities, so I ended up covering five games in six days. When the Sunday game ended, I picked up my scorecard and camera and exited stage left, glad I was not a beat writer. If that game had gone into extra innings, I think the scream would have filled the stadium.” 2:51:57 PM 5/30/05 “Geo keeps griping about the Fillies, then they go and beat up on my poor Bonds-less, Benitez-less Giants. Ouch.” 10:58:55 PM 5/31/05 “It's on me Bowlder. I stopped wearing my Phillies hat and started wearing my Philadelphia A's hat. Whenever I put on my Phillies cap they lose. When I wear my A's cap they win. They may never lose another game! Actually, cereally, the all-star break is coming up - the annual swoon. They do this to us every year. Set us up; knock us down.” 8:55:12 AM 6/01/05 “2 outta 2 so far. Well, we didn't have a bet this time, geo, but I was at REI today, so you might want to keep an eye on your mailbox....” 11:36:11 PM 6/01/05 “You wuz robbed by the alleged umps! Even our broadcaster extraordinaire, Harry Kalas, said he caught the ball. The replays showed he caught the ball. I wonder what game those idjits were watching. 'Course, Chase Utley still would have hit that salami. It was destiny.” 8:37:22 AM 6/02/05 “Papers here said positive thoughts were harder to find in the Giants' clubhouse than a diet Philly cheesesteak....” 8:51:23 AM 6/02/05 “Yeah, Reuter said all the controversial plays seem to not go their way. Both teams had problems with the home plate alleged umpire. I tuned in just in time to see Thome get thumbed. Frankly, when Thome disputes a call they should shut the %@ up and check the video after the game. He couldn't have hit that ball with a utility pole. And Alou had trouble with him as well, but he just had his say and let it go. Already knew the cretin had a quick thumb. I don't even like those calls when they go in favor of my team. It cheapens the game. Like Harry the K said, nobody paid admission to see the umpire wave his thumb in the air.” 11:25:33 AM 6/02/05 Jump to Page << prev
