“Gotta give some kudos here to Mayor Mike and to the Big Apple. They just signed into law a "get-tough" measure on rude fans, making it punishable by a big fine and up to a year in jail for throwing things on the field and/or going down onto a playing field. It also includes having physical contact with a player. They are also actively trying to get other cities to follow suit.

Things have gotten out of hand to the point where it can be difficult to enjoy a game. Gotta do stuff like this, IMO...

When he was with the Mets, it seemed to me he batted every fifth batter. He was always there, cranking his bat, spitting tobacco, and getting on base. When the Phils got him, it seemed at times that he wasn't hitting often enough.

Best lead-off hitter I've had the pleasure of watching. To the other team, an annoying pain in the ass. He could also hit for power, and if he got on base he drove the other battery crazy.

“Jason Michaels is a solid ballplayer. He was platooned last year with Kenny Lofton, so his BA was probably a bit inflated. I think if he plays regularly he's a .280 guy with 60-70 RBI, perhaps more in a good year. He will run through outfield walls. He was used a lot in pinch hitting roles and was decent at it. I was sorry to see him go, but we need Rhodes to set up Gordon.

Half the Phillies team had some kind of issues last year (and the year before that, and the year before that).

I get a feeling that the team is going into spring training this year with a purpose. I hope so. Last year they made excuses for losing in spring training, then excuses for losing in April, and then spent the rest of the season trying to keep up with the Braves. I think they finally realize they need to work more in the spring to make the playoffs possible in September.

The jury here is still out on Charlie Manuel. We would have preferred Jim Leland, who was available at the time.”
