I love this pic from today's SF Chron - check out the guy in the first row:

I saw more ball fly out of the park yesterday than I've ever seen in person before. Eight all told - five for the Phillies and three for the Marlins. The geraniums were taking a beating.

I talked to the guy in our one-person Philly office today - he's rooting for us against da bums this weekend....

I like a few others in that photo, too:
- The woman on the right who appears to be unaware that a baseball player is about to crash into her and her seatmates.
- The guy protecting his beer.
- The guy curling up in the fetal position ("Eeek! A baseball!")

Whoa! Turn your back for one second....

Cruds have lost 7 straight; Assthrows have won 7 straight. Lead now 1½. Yikes!

I view this with mixed emotions. Scott Rolen goes down in flames, good.

Astros in the playoffs, bad.

Then again, the Phutiles need to do what they failed to do last night - find a way to win. Having a home run ruled a foul ball did not help, but they stranded so many runners that Jethro said they had people standing all around the bases.

Do catch the HBO film, "Wait 'Till Next Year," about the Cubs.

Line from the movie: about the Cubs' travails: "It's a big bucket of wrong!"

Any playoffs that include the Dodgers, Astros, or Braves will not be watched in our home....

Pat Burrell is hitting like .220 with RISP...struck out ugly twice last night with runners on. Too bad the Yanks didn't have room on their roster for him, too.

And Rollins...still has no clue what a leadoff guy is supposed to do.

A game back with five to go....go Phillies!

Pat the Bat needs to retire. He's washed up. Marcus Hayes says it's his bone spur. It's been bothering him all season. He was find four about three days into spring training, after the operation in the off season.

Why does Jethro keep using him? That's the question.

Is the occasional bomb worth it? They booed him all day Sunday until he hit that bomb after the rain delay, and then you would have thought he was the second coming of Jimmie Foxx.

Geo, did you see Rollins hit that homer Monday night? Then he comes up in the 9th, nobody out, and what does he do? Long fly ball.

That's going to happen. His homer on Sunday was very timely, as were Utley's and Coste's. Then, as it turned out, Utley's second homer was also timely.

I'd much rather have J-Roll up there in the clutch than Burrell or Lieby, and I've been a Lieby fan since I saw him when he was a Reading. Those two are sure rally killers. Both need to retire.

Being an Astros season ticket holder and a graduate of WSU doesn't give one much of a chance to gloat, so when I can I do.

The Phillies can still win a wild card berth if they win all three against the Marlins and the Dodgers get swept by the Giants.

Go Giants!

(Pssst, anybody want to buy a neat bridge. It's very sturdy, and it's located in a prime real estate market!)

From Yahoo.com:

Noah Lowry (7-10, 4.84) tries to end a forgettable September on a winning note. The left-hander is 0-3 with a 14.36 ERA in four starts this month, giving up 26 runs and 28 hits in just 15 2-3 innings.

Soooooo, how 'bout them Eagles!

If the Cards keep it up, they'll replace the 64 Philles as the biggest chokers in baseball history.
ChuckD

And how appropriate is that?

It was the Cards who benefitted from the 1964 Phillies collapse and won the World Series from the Yankees.

The Yankees promptly hired away their manager, Johhny Keane.

Actually, the Phutiles had their destiny in their own hands last week and blew it all by their lonesomes. They've done it to us again!

We don't even have a goat, black cat, or Steve Bartman to blame for it.

Upon further review, the AL teams are not exactly on a roll heading into the playoffs, with a combined 0-10 record in their recent games. In contrast, the NL playoff teams (if you include Houston), are a combined 13-0 in the past few days.

You know, it's been a beautiful season. My favorite team hadn't had a winning season in about 15 years.

We're going to the playoffs and if our pitching returns, we can actually beat the Yankees. It's probably 70 against.

Congrats to the Twins. And congrats to the Tigers.

Too much excitement in about a 10 minute period, I didn't think I could handle it. One TV had the vikes trying to come back (I thought for a minute they could do it) one tv had KC rallying from behind to the lead, and the next tv had the Twins pulling into the lead, all at the same time, I thought I was gonna die.
