And now A SONG
Sung to Take Me Out for some Baseball

OH Take me out for some cocaine
Take Me out for some blow.
Snow or fluff or even crack
I don't care if I ever come back
Well its snort snort snort for the home team
We're sure they are feeling okay
Cause its ONE TWO LINES and your out
If its good cocaine.

Cruds-Mutts ... can they both lose?

That's mince meat ENS.

I remember the 1968 World Series, with Gibson and Lolich dueling in the afternoon sun. That old Tigers Stadium was a band box park. At night the shadows made it seem eerie on B&W TV. Luckily, the WS was played during the afternoon in those days.

Busch Stadium though was brand new, light, and airy. Gibson's scowl was plainly visible.

But it was Lolich who won three games that year, overshadowing Gibson and Denny McLain (he won 30 that year).

That time with Ernie Harwell in the booth on ESPN last week was one of those precious baseball moments. They could market a video of that.

It's the playoffs,
The Yankees lost,
The Mets won,
and the forcast is for snow in hell

I had (still have, I think) a Mickey Lolich model glove!

From watching on TV as a kid, I always thought the inside (walls, etc.) of Tiger Stadium was green. Then I went there (one of the last years they played there), and everything was blue. Freaked me out!

I was something of a Tigers fan even before marrying Detroit-native BowlderGal because '68 was the year I really got interested in baseball, and the Tigers were often on the Game of the Week. Kubek and Gowdy, of course....

The look Gibson gave pitchers must have skeered the shist out of batters. Hell, Pennsy still says Gibson scares him.

It's going to be COLD for the game tomorrow.

I live about an hour southwest of Detroit and there was a quarter inch of snow on the ground this morning on the way to work.

They moved up the game to 4:30 so people don't freeze to the seats.

Actually, I hate the Mutts and the Cruds. That's just for GPs, but the Mutts have Billy Wagner and the Cruds have Scott Rolen, so it's personal now. Is it possible for both of them to lose?

Looks like it's coming down to Go Tinkers! They have Placido Polanco. Poly's a good soldier. I always liked him.

Reminds me of a game the Phillies and Rockies played at Coors Field in the snow one April long past. The players in the pens and dugouts were wearing winter parkas, and the ball was lost in snow squalls from time to time. That was the most brutal baseball game ever, I think.

Besides Placido Polanco, it's fun to chant "Marco ... Scutaro!"

It was good to see Placido Polanco skipping around the bases in joy. Poly's a good solid gamer. Hated to see him leave the Phillies. At the time, it seemed like he left a contender for a cellar dweller. Who knew?

The Phillies had a chance to hire Leland and let him get away. Doh!

Wow, that really messed up this thread!

Now, if you think about it, the radio announcers who mentioned the thing about the Mets' pitcher, Maine, with the whole state name thing, obviously never heard of any guys named Washington. mlb.com lists seven such players....

the Mets fans looked like ghosts after the game ended last night. that must have been a heart breaker. They sat through the rain til the end and the bases were loaded and the crowd was nuts and then Beltran watched that pitch go by and silence. People were crying and they didn't leave their seats for a while, sitting and standing there in shock.

I honestly wasn't expecting the cards to win after losing game 6. I thought it was the Mets' to win.
