I'm working on planning my backpacking trips for the summer. I'm sticking to the Sierra again this summer because I have so much to see still. I want to do a 5 or 6 day loop in northern Yosemite (a hold-over from last year), I want to go in over Taboose Pass, I'd like to explore Sixty Lakes Basin, go over Forester Pass, check out Thousand Island Lake, and the list goes on...

What's everyone else planning for the summer.

I'm playing it by ear. Might join up with a friend who's hiking the AT, but I'm working on some major home renovations, and don't have the cash to do much traveling. :(

Same here smiley.

I have been tossing around the idea of trying to get a small group together to do a week or so somewhere in central America--Maybe in 2004-05.

A short weekend on North Manitou Island with the little one, a long weekend on the water or two, and a nine day trip to Isle Royale with a few close friends.

Haven't started thinking about summer yet. I wouldn't mind going up to Michigan for a cooler trip (it gets really hot here during the summer) but with the impending Mother of All Vacations in October coming, I have to save my leave. We'll see.

Ahhh...summer. That's the best thing about being a student. :) I've pretty much decided that I'll be returning To Glacier (MT) again. For a second...I debated summer school, but I figure I might as well not be in a hurry to finish. Then I'd proabably have to get a real job.

I got a wedding in Germany to go to in August, I guess I should plan to do something around that. Never even thought about hiking there - there must be a few good places, didn't Hitler have a place in the mountains?

Sacto, my dear, Sacramento. Sacatomato. Suckramento. Actually, it's turned out to be a pretty cool place to live.

August is a good time to visit the state, tho it will be dry as a bone. Less tourists all around. You will dig The City and Yosemite.

don't act like you're sad you're going on your trip, Rosey! LOL!

well, she's pretty much a total b-tch, bitpusher. i mean, i can get along with about anyone in the whole world, but she is impossible. she's friends with my two friends who are going. however, i can tolerate anyone, as long as i get to go to CA!

South America. For a year.

I'll tell ya tho, last time I went to San Fran with some friends, we went out for sushi. Four guys. Sorta a motley crew but shabby chique. Anyway, we go in this place and the girl sits us at a table near the front window in the front section. We sit for a couple of minutes, I see the floor manager talking to her and pointing to us. Next, she comes up and asks us if we would mind moving. Sure, no problem -- mind your the joint is EMPTY at this point. She leads us waaaaaaay back, to the furthest table in the corner of a hallway in the restaurant next to the bathroom. Snobby feckin' SF elitists! Wish I could remember the name of the dump so you can be sure to avoid it!

Lyra - We'll have to pull out the stops and have a Northern Californian welcome for you. Come to think of it, us Nor Cal'ers don't seem to have much luck getting together. Maybe it would take an out-of-stater to pull us together.

Lyra. Go to Phoenix Lake in Marin County, by way of the town of Ross. Climb to the top of Mount Tamalpais and back while you are there. All of the mystics do it when they are in the Bay Area. It's a nice day-hike.
