Hey All,

I got inspired by a post made by MSilver on the Freeze Your Ass Off trip report thread.

So how's about a group trip for the warmer weather?

Any location suggestions?

okay - let me narrow things down a bit - what I meant was....when it warms up in the Northeast - and places in the Northeast area - the 'Daks, the Cats', etc....

I'll pass on hiking in the heat. I've done enough of it in the past to say I much prefer winter.
My gear hibernates in the Summer.

"about that English dude on the salt trail in Ethiopia" lol. Pretty much about how dang hot it is, and how the people live. It was called "Extreme something or other" and they send this guy someplace different everyweek.

I'll second Cancun or ST. Thomas would be nice. On a serious note howbout somewhere in the Smokey's???

One more pitch for the Carribean.....Some of the most beautiful hiking I've ever experienced was on a trip to Tahiti(same type climate). Just incredible really!!!

Wherever is decided, I'm in!

Now now... Let's not be name calling. Perhaps if you had been at FYAO, we could have discussed the possibilty of warm weather hiking. But, you weren't there...

Wuss!!!

I'm not big on warm weather, but I think it would be a good idea for TT socialising. Standing around in -30°C requires some pretty specialised gear.

I suggested western Pennsylvania on another thread to make it up to Pennsyhiker for calling him a #&%!$ and to make it easier for the people from Pennsylvania and Ohio, not to mention Tarabull from Michigan.

A couple of years ago I posted about a hike to Sand Lake in the Five Lakes country in the region of Cranberry Lake. I've always wanted to hike in there, but it just never happened. The thread deteriorated so quickly that I decided to avoid the place altogether.

What does everyone think?

Western PA is great. I've been to Minister Creek Trail and would love to check out more of that area.

I'm not sure where Cranberry Lake is... Is that NY?

Yes, it's in the western section of the Adirondack Park, but I'd love to drive out to western Pennsylvania this summer to meet the crowd again.

Do you want to start setting it up, Tarabull? (I always get my girls to do the adminstration stuff - volleyball, rugby, class attendance, etc. because I am organisationally challenged. Something about too many [rugby] blows to the head and years of alcohol abuse.)

I'm no expert w/ the hiking in PA. Perhaps we could recruit some PA folks to help w/ the planning?

I know i'm late on this thread but.....
....what about taking this idea to another level and turn it into a TT Beach Party...

Assateague Island would be a great place to go....

How can you go wrong....Ocean, Beach, Sand, Sun, Bikinis....and my favourite Surfing...

They have beach campsites which can be reached by hiking or 4WD...in fact there's a 13 mile trek to a really nice beach campsite....in fact a group could hike in to the site and a supply vehicle with all the good stuff like a keg could drive in....

Anyway...just my $.02....

what state is that in?
mapleleaf

I have the vehicle for the job, 'loop.

I was thinking the first week of July for whichever place we go. Canada Day is on the Tuesday and Independance Day on Friday. That would mean free time and no black flies - just mosquitoes.

We were talking about this very thing at FYAO! Summer is great, but for the pesky bugs.

oooh Stratus, Assateague is AWESOME! I haven't been there in years. Maple - Assateague is an island in Virginia. It is usually not so buggy near the ocean (ocean breeze) and the wild ponies are cool! I took an Oceanography course on Wallops island many moons ago - much of our research was performed at the wildlife refuge on Assateague.

mapleleaf

AmyG....Assateague is sooooo cool...I totally agree with you...i'm an ex-beach bum...I wouldn't worry too much about bugs...just stay out on the beach side...ocean breezes keep those pesty bugs inland...it's kinda hard for them to fly in a stiff wind....

Anyhow...the best place to hike is along the ocean in the hard packed sand....when you get too hot...throw the pack down and jump in the ocean....do some body surfing...then pick up your pack, hike some more and then do it all over again....

BTW...Artex....the beach idea was mind...now get it straight dude...now wheres that cd...I know it's around here some where....

The north half of assateague is in maryland - i stayed there 2 nights on my road trip, nice place - if you can put up with the horses all over the place. We only did short day hikes, never got too far back on the 4wd paths or hiking trails, but i did like the island.

ok I may be a little slow here, but is it true that they still have wild horses? because if this is true, I want to go!!!!!!
I mean i cant see a down side to this. well unless you are down wind of them LOL
