Yosemite trip

“I've got my plane ticket and reserved 3 nights in Seki and 9 nights here and there in Yosemite Valley along with 2 wilderness permits..one for Glac Pt/Ill on full moon and another for Sunrise Lakes..I'm terrified something will happen to get in my way..I'm not used to planning 5 months in advance but to stay in Yosemite you gotta..it's my first time (aw-shucks) there so I'll do the tourist things, no doubt..bought trip insurance to cover my butt..I've found if I cover all my bases usually things work out..I am unbelievably psyched! I'll be renting a car for 3 weeks and will also drive up to see my girlfriend who lives near Garberville, CA..I love coastal redwoods..happy happy happy..and Mayo gave me a clean bill of health on my last visit 10 days ago..I told them if they see anything during my May check-up they'll have to wait until I get back before they do anything..grinning from ear to ear..”

“Parker pass, Gem lakes, Garnet lakes, Donohue pass back through Lyell Canyon! I'll be meeting up with Snownymph in the back country! I will also be doing Glacier Point and staying 1 night in the Valley at the beginning!”

“but, if I tried that I'd die..I'm not used to either the altitude nor are my legs used to walking uphill for miles..Snownymph looks like alot of fun..gotta love anyone who hikes in the snow wearing short shorts...”

“Get insurance on the rental car, too, in case you leave a snickers crumb in the floor and a bear rips the door off to get to it. LOL (but seriously).”

“If you have AAA and AX card or and credit card. they will cover the car rental. when I went Cananda last year I did not buy additional ins. saved lots a $$

“Having had some experience with having an accident in a rental car, let me tell you that your car insurance will cover you, as long as you haven't driven a rental more than 45 days (in the case of my insurance company, anyway). However, they don't cover the loss of use charges, so you will be stuck paying those unless you get the LDW.”

“I haad a rental car once and I had to bring it back in wheeled on a dolly. This was back in my Fla. days. I got into two accidents with it in one weekend. The first one wasn't my fault. I was the second car in a line of a four car accident. That did in the back end. Drove it the rest of the weekend. Then, on Sunday night, I drove past a stop sign and into a dirch at the T at the end of a barren highway. Got tangled in an AT&T roadside installation. Amazingly enough, the Hillsborough County Sherriff's Dept. saw it fit to let me walk away free that night. Need I say more about that. But, the lokk on the people's faces as they took that first stroll around the poor little VW Rabbit that had only 900 miles on it was priceless.”

“treebeard and myself were givin a car rental while our car was in the shop. I think it had about 1500 miles on it when we got it. well after about 2 weeks and a trip to FL we returned it with about 4000 miles on it. the people were not happy. but I had a blast while in FLA”

“who I used a month ago as I had a completely flat, puncured tire..the wrecker couldn't get up my driveway so he had me drive down on our worse-than-a-Montana-mountain-road driveway..I told him it would totally trash the tire..he said it wouldn't. I knew it would and it did..I don't blame him, exactally..I hated my tires even tho' they didn't have many miles on them so was looking for an excuse to get rid of them. The car insurance was included in my comprehensive trip insurance..I figure you can never have too much insurance around Yosemite bears (wink)”

“We spent an incredible week in Yosemite back in 94--the mid point of a 7 week cross country camping trip.
Our problem was we simply had no desire to ever leave.
Have a wonderful time.
I highly suggest hiking Nevada and Vernal Falls.”

“It will be the middle of summer will they be worth it then? I have 2 days to do the touristy things. Couple of day hikes and Glacier point before I go to Tuolomne to do my 'long distance' it's a 41 mile rte.”

“Are you trying to kill me? I will be in the Valley on a Saturday and Sunday! And I am trying to get acclimated. On my Tuolomne rte I am going to do Parker Pass which is 12 and some change.”

Matahari: Although beautiful, it's really crowded in the Valley in the summer. Two years ago my son and I went to the Valley for 3 days, but after 2 days we left due to the overcrowded conditions.

You might want to think about spending more time in the high country than in the Valley.”
