“Hello I was woundering if anyone has went to any survival schools. I am looking into the BOSS program but if anyone has been somewhere they would recomend I would.” 8:23:47 PM 2/20/03 “I would reccommend Basic Training, provided by the United States Army. Sure you have to sign up for a couple of years (or more), but what other survival school is willing to pay you while you are there? On a more serious note, I heard that the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) puts on some real good training.” 9:16:55 AM 2/21/03 “tom brown has some really good schools...books too on survival...if you can handle his ego...i'll see if i can find more info if you're interested...drop me an e-mail if you want and i'll let you know” 11:07:36 AM 2/21/03 “I like Tom Brown's books. Got about 6 of them for Christmas. Some of his stuff seems a bit over the top (fabricated) though. I'm reading "The Vision" now.” 12:46:35 PM 2/21/03 “Backpacker magazine had some info about a wilderness survival training class that was to be held at Cloudland Canyon State Park in Georgia. It is a one day, free, class that wasn't too far away from my home so I called up the state park to see how I could get signed up. Turns out that Backpacker magazine put the teachers email address in the magazine without asking permission first. The mail server for the state park stopped working because of all the email. It's still not working as of yesterday when I called. So, the course is full. Yeah, it was a one day course but what the heck...it was free. The naturalist I spoke with told me that they would offer more similar classes in the future and to keep an eye open for them. Ppppffftttt !” 3:05:24 PM 8/16/05 “Boy, they're clueless about more than backpacking over there at Backpacker...” 3:09:21 PM 8/16/05
