I've got Spring Fever.
Temperature will be in the 80's today. Florida Spring is here.

Most GSMNP Campgrounds will open on March 14th. Cataloochee will likely be full. The campgrounds serve as bases for backpacking hikes. It is time to get ready. I may go up there in advance and start backpacking off some winter fat. IT'S SPRING!

After this winter, I must admit that I am also getting the spring itch.

Hey Nowslimmer, my brother in Tampa says they're supposed to get some pretty big thunderstorms today. Same for you over on the other coast? I love thunderstorms and am pretty excited about moving back to the capital of the world for them!

Good morning, mapleleaf, Artex and Tilt. Yes, SPRING HAS SPRUNG! Some warm rain this afternoon will help the flowers. We just lost the sun's icon on the image, but it is shinning brightly here. I'm headed out on my bike. When the rain hits later, I can hit the health club for a daily workout and steam bath.

With all the snow starting to melt, I'm looking forward to spring too. I'm not looking forward to mosquitoes and black flies that come with it though.

I know what you mean stovestomper. I haven't had any symptoms yet but my car is yellow with all the pollen. Last year a friend from Chicago was here at this time. She has a black car and it was covered. She had never seen such vigorous pollenation in her life.

I know what you mean, SS. Many oak varieties are pollenating heavily right now. It's pretty bad here.

I have some yellow #&%!$ covering my car. that will stay on there for about one month...or was it 2? I can't remember. Eyes are itching, yeah... but I don't have allergies too bad. Only while backpacking.

Ewker, my point was that it is cold enough to "flurry" but warm enough for shiat to start blooming. Crazy Tennessee weather....

I saw pollen on my truck to. What I didn't see was where it came from. Maybe it's something near the gym or work.

literally saw hundreds of geese in flocks of what looked like about 35 on Saturday. Maybe I just want it that bad but I never remember seeing such masses.

Also, the sand hill cranes are in town. Saw 6 on my ride .

Sure signs. :-)

We get muddy roads around here when spring is close. Mud season....it's right after winter's end and before black fly season.

It sounds even better inside a tent, as long as it is not leaking all over you.

I've always wondered, how much rain is a foot of snow equivalent to?

We will be trying the camping thing this summer/fall with her.

The answer to that actually can vary considerably, depending on the temperature and humidity at the time the snow falls. With a very wet snow, you can get a foot or less of snow from an inch of water. With a cold, dry snow, you can get as much as 3 feet or more from an inch of water. A good rule of thumb around here is 15-20 inches of snow for every inch of precipitation.

We've got rain and thunder today too. The ground is still frozen solid so we have about two-three inches of slush to wade through on the sidewalks. My cast is soaked. The storm drains are frozen over so the street is quickly filling. I feel for the postman today. The five minutes I had to walk to the bus stop and put Ab on the bus was crappy enough to make me be glad to be stuck inside today.

Spring, eh? I just got back from snowshoeing a couple of miles. In some drifty places (trail talk?) the snow was up to my ass, but mostly I sunk no further than mid-calf. Sure is a hell of a workout. More so than hiking or skiing, I think. Spring! I'll believe it when the turds start to float in my septic tank.
