My New Year's resolution was to vent on this. So here I am.

I have checked all the pack list threads and no one here lists spray paint, so who the HELLo is doing it??!!??? It has to be one of us, because no one else goes into the backcountry

It's the boy scouts who grew p to be hoodlums.

Ice Tea, but I don't think he's a hoodlum too.

Ice Tea is, but I can assure you he'd never do such a thing.

I hate seeing graffiti on rocks also. I'd love to catch some little hoodlum kid in the act and teach him a lesson.

Probably the same hoodlums that bang off the metal blazes. No respect at all.

Serious issue!
I am appalled at the paint on the walls. The problem is....I haven't caught one of the #&%!$s yet. As much time as I spend on the trail though, I will. It's probably one of my biggest peaves outside of tangled phone cords. :")

I hate the destruction of nature also. I especially hate it when it destroys the historic work of earlier peoples.

How about when you get to a nice sceanic rest along the trail only to find the bark of some nice tree carved into? Who the hell cares that L + R love each other?

I Have A Great Idea...
I say we all carry around a can of gray, brown or another rock-colored spraypaint and cover over all the graffiti we find in nature.

WHO'S WITH ME????

There's a big rock on the way to BSP that is painted with a rainbow and birds and stuff and says, "keep Maine beautiful" or something equally as stupid. Everytime we go by it there's tourists having their picture taken next to it, and we always comment about how ugly that stinkin' rock is. Have no idea who painted it, but if they really wanted to keep Maine beautiful, they shouldn'tve painted that rock. :)

take a bottle of paint thinner with you next time and squirt a lil of that on it to make a big nasty run down it, this will also loosen the edges making it easier for rain and wind to scour the rest of it off

take a wire brush with you next time then....if you whine about a problem, don't whine about the solution, find something and fix it. Paint thinner might be nasty stuff, but it'll filter away eventually...or use turpintine..it's "natural"...maybe you can do this a a trail clean up...if it's close to some showers, and doesn't have snakes and spiders.

Maybe its the bear cubs. In today's culture, with the reduced habitats and all, both mom and dad are off foraging to make ends meet. In the meantime, who's at home to make sure little Yogi is brought up right.
