So, I post a thread on paddling.net asking about kayaks and a virtual fist fight broke out. It's funny because the argument was over skegs and rudders, something I didn't even inquire about.

hey im not rich but I found them to be SNOBS!!!
so i went out and got what I wanted and did a solo kayaking trip all without taking any classes!
I did it and lived and had a blast.
I am going to take classes, I found a place here in the city (yes in the Hudson) that offers Free classes.

“hey artex...go to www.madpaddlers.com (if anything to listen to a cool jimmy buffet song :) ) they have two stores in the tampa bay area.

i bought my kayak from them 2 years ago..and they can tell you all about ocean/gulf kayaking. I asked the guy if i could take the kayak i was buying out to the ocean/gulf and he said.....u bet....he had one and he "surfs" in it at sebastian inlet....heh...i only have a skeg,,..... but if i had the extra 300 bucks to spend, i would go for the rudder just for the versatility.
I paddled out to Cumberland Island twice with just a skeg in choppy water with some wind and against the tide once...and it did fine......my arms fell off, but the kayak did real well. definitely get a spray skirt!”
