“Ok, the geek had to come out in me. By doing a little analysis, the final number you will get is always a multiple of 9. Even freakier is that is it always the first digit in your number times 9. So if you choose 40, 41, 42, 43, ..., 49, you will always get 36 as your final number. As pedxing pointed out, the character legend changes everytime you reload the page. So basically, on the legend, all multiples of 9 have the same symbol. To test this out, write down a few numbers and check them out before clicking on the submit button. Sorry for spoiling the fun, sometimes you just can't control the geek.”
