gaining weight after a hike??View MessagesViewing posts 1 to 34 of 34 messages posted.
“what the f"a"ck?? Everytime I go on a longer hike I weight about 1lb. more the next day... sure hope that's muscle and not some discusting wobbly fat cells. I eat normal, not more and not less, well sometimes even less then on regular days.” 3:50:28 PM 2/25/03 “I wouldn't have thought it was enough to worry about. Does it come off over the next few days. I find that I'm normally more disciplined about drinking water. But I do normally go down after a couple of days on the hill” 4:00:03 PM 2/25/03 “Did you remember to take off your backpack?” 4:00:09 PM 2/25/03 “Might be sodium intake from the dehydrated meals.” 4:00:58 PM 2/25/03 “Ever notice after a workout your muscles are puffy? It could be due to the workout you just gave your entire legs. Fluid retention as the muscles heal.” 4:08:16 PM 2/25/03 “hahaha!! standing on the scale with no cloth on. ;) I am really not sure what the heck it is. I am always so shocked that I don't weigh myself for a couple of days. Can't be the sodium. I don't eat a lot of sodium and don't eat dehydrated meals while on day hikes. I drink lots of water during hikes, the lost couple of hikes where pretty easy and I caught myself not drinking as much. Still I gain one huge pound. if I keep it up you will be able to roll my down a hill in a little while.” 4:08:55 PM 2/25/03 “treebait, a couple years ago I was seriously into bodybuilding and yes, I did have fluid retention in the muscle, but it normally did not last until the next day. I guess I'll figure it out. (as soon as I am brave enough to get back on that darn scale)” 4:11:41 PM 2/25/03 “I have that problem also. Hiking is not very strenuous to me (I work in construction), just that having all that gorp so handy, and all the encouragement to eat more while on the trail, etc... then the celebratory meal afterwards before we say goodbye to friends....sigh.” 5:45:11 PM 2/25/03 “well uphill klimber, I guess they will be able to roll us down a trail pretty soon huh? I'll join ya! rolling together. :)” 5:46:52 PM 2/25/03 “How many victory beers do you have when you get home Gemini?!?” 5:47:30 PM 2/25/03 “seems like i always lose weight when i hike. my latest trip i lost five pounds and that was a overnighter, eating like normal” 5:48:47 PM 2/25/03 “none Captn. Bobo. Do I look like I like to drink alot (slurfing down my tom collins while I am writing this)?? really now, it doesn't matter what I do, eat, don't eat, drink, don't drink. it's always one pound. Got to go on this 48 hour no food at all diet again tomorrow. hey, who knows, maybe I'll wake up one day and look like Ms. Universe. you'll never know!” 5:54:37 PM 2/25/03 “Gemini, as you know it's not really how much you weigh. Do your clothes feel tighter during this 1 lb thing? If not than it might be muscle and not anything else.” 5:58:14 PM 2/25/03 “One pound or not, you ARE Ms. Universe, Gemini, you ARE!” 5:59:03 PM 2/25/03 “I always lose weight, but gain it right back. I lost 5 lbs on the October Maine trip and I ate like a pig. I always lose 5-6 lbs doing the Trek Across Maine (bike tour) and I eat constantly on that trip. Although I'm fine on multi-day trips, I sometimes have a problem on day hikes, especially if it's hot and I'm heading for a peak. I don't eat enough because I don't feel hungry, or I'm too lazy to stop and eat - which results in headaches in three seasons and shivering in winter. On this weekends trip I gotta remember to eat every hour so I stay warm. :)” 6:03:18 PM 2/25/03 “Are most household scales able to detect a one pound increase or decrease. I doubt it. Have you ever noticed that you can weight more or less just by stepping on scales with the left foot first then try again with the right foot first. Be consistent with how you weigh yourselve. Try this if you want to make a difference. Top off with lots of water before you weigh in to go on a hike, I'm saying drink a gallon a couple of hours before hand, then don't drink much during the hike. Dehydrate during the hike somewhat, don't drink any after hike till you weigh in. You can lose 4 to 6 pounds this way.” 6:15:41 PM 2/25/03 “Gemini if your trekking is very strenuous it might be the buildup of lactic acid in the muscle which in turn would hold onto water. The extra pound should go away when the lactic acid is absorbed. :~)” 6:16:35 PM 2/25/03 “yes, it is very strenuous on most of the hikes. Maybe that's it. I have a digital scale, so it is pretty accurate. (think so at least) just woke up from a nap, and look... ![]() what to do??” 6:21:21 PM 2/25/03 “LOL @ gemini. I have a body fat scale, and my body fat percentage goes down after hiking, albeit temporarily...” 6:28:16 PM 2/25/03 “i have one too, maybe I should get over my ego and start using it. I am just really terrified of those darn scales after a hike.” 6:31:32 PM 2/25/03 “LOL Gemini.I need to do that hike.LOL” 7:05:22 PM 2/25/03 “See, I told ya so! lol!” 8:05:01 PM 2/25/03 “Have you been hiking K2, Everest, Denali, and Rainer all in one day with goretexx to get that physique? ;-)” 8:34:30 PM 2/25/03 “LMAO” 9:03:55 PM 2/25/03 “ ”8:48:58 PM 2/19/06 “Yet you couldn't look at my pic on the other thread!” 8:51:06 PM 2/19/06 “Well, if you'd actually posted the pic and not the link....more would have to look LOL!” 8:55:20 PM 2/19/06 “SC I've managed to NOT get kicked off TT for alot of years now and want to keep it that way!” 9:16:01 PM 2/19/06 “that pic gives me wood I well, actually I used wood to make shutters for my monitor. had to hide that pic” 9:23:46 PM 2/19/06 “I have a glow in the dark thong, I just hope my butt doesnt look that big in em!” 9:24:44 PM 2/19/06 “Well, if it does, no doubt there will be a thread;)” 9:04:12 AM 2/20/06 “OMG Where do you find this stuff?” 6:10:24 PM 2/20/06 “I am freakin blind thank god I know brail” 6:12:22 PM 2/20/06 “You anti-socialist human scum, we will thwart your frantic attempts to stifle us!” 6:15:54 PM 2/20/06
