Still Life with Woodpecker
I’ve been aware for quite a while that we are all living inside a pack of Camel cigarettes. It would appear now that the pack is tucked inside of Tarpy’s pants. I think that fully explains the dude with a tobacco flag sitting on a tractor in the reflecting pond.

as far as I know he hasn't come out yet - though the traffic seems to be a little clearer. That's what happens when we let those North Carolinans in the city ;o)

This guy's nothing compared to my husband's "Carolina Hillpeople" family. His great grandmother was arrested and put in prison, with all of her sons, for running corn liquor.

hey, i have a criminal background, too! i have a great great, etc. grandfather who was permanently banned from Boston (i don't think the family's been back since), and my very own grandfather ran a pool hall & barber shop in Alaska back in the 1930's. he and his brothers got run out of town as well, but they never told anybody why. now they're all dead & have left behind their boringly law-abiding grandchildren.

hey, am i the only pansy having war nightmares? oi, i could barely sleep last night!

a Tractor?
You get such INteresting wackos up there in Th' Big City. All we get down this way are drunks with handguns.

I used to love to drive the backroads in rural Virginia the day after Circuit Court met to look for new bullet holes in the signs.

3/18/03

yeah, so much for tightened security, the guy is a few hundred yards from the whitehouse and he's able to drive a tractor into a pond before anyone stops him!

Yikes, I didn't know a pond was a national asset. We should have put a guard on it.

You know, thats a nice tractor. I can understand wow they wouldn't want to harm it buy letting the dunce blow himself up.

Hyway, that's not the point, it's maybe 200 yards from the State Department, and a few hundred more to GW's abode
ynamiynami
1:04:30 PM
3/18/03

So we don't allow tractors in America anymore? Are you advocating the closing of the streets and the outlawing the use of construction, landscaping, etc equipment within 200 yards of the State Department? Perhaps we should have a "shoot on site" policy for lawnmowers?
hyway
2:27:38 PM
3/18/03

ermmmm, no, - I'm saying you don't often see too many tractors on Constitution Avenue, and this wasn't, by the look of it, a machine that's used in construction. Security is supposed to be v tight in DC and I'm suggesting that someone should have noticed this unusual sight before it got the chance to get that close to some of the most important buildings in the country.
