“Well it's AT thru-hiking season. I've been reading through some of the pre-hike entries to get to know some of this year's hikers ('cuz I'm lame). You start to get a feel for those hikers you think have a real good shot at at least making to Damascus, and then there are those that reek of "off the trail."

I know, I know, we're all winners - and just beginning a thru-hike is victory enough, but if you feel like being mean and petty for a bit, let me know the odds on some of your favorites "off trailers" and if your feeling inspired and constructive - let me know the odds on your favorite "2003 GA-ME's (or ME-GA's)."”

“Great idea Big Coop! I agree, they're all winners, and I totally admire them for actually going through and attempting it. However, the fantasy angle sounds like just plain, good fun.”

“I need to do some more reading on there. There are already some guys on the trail, they started in December and are already in Virginia. Methinks they'll make it, but just in time for black fly season.

I nailed one or two a couple of years ago though.”

“ohh, do we have a deadline to get our pics in. can we have a list of available hikers and then have a draft to pick people for our team. get points based on how many miles they hike before quiting. Maybe a hiker can gain extra points by how many times they are mentioned by another trailjournals poster currently hiking? I can't decide if someone should lose points for taking towndays or if they should gain them if they go kayaking or something similar. Oh, and definately need to lose points if the blue blaze or slackpack.”
