Congrats!
It's going to be a blast! Wish I could go too.

When it gets closer....lemme know where you're going to be on the weekends! Maybe I can drop in on you once before the resupply.
I'll bring you two a Pepsi or something ;)

heck, i guess that means we need to get off our booties (bootys?) and apply for our permit, too.

too bad you need a resupply just as we're starting - it would be fun to do one for you, WLD!

That's great, WLD. This is one report that'll top all others. One to look forward too.

Congratulations on your decision to give it a go. 8)

It'll be a blast.

SnowDude and I are planning to do it again next year. Now that we know what we're capable of doing, we'll cover more miles/day, and add more side trips.

If we weren't going to do our BC trip in August, you know we'd be there to resupply.

I applied for a permit for our northern option this morning (I already succeeded in getting one for our southern option). On this one, which we'll do if the bro-in-law does not come out to hike with us, we'd go from Tuolumne down to either North (adventurous) or South (longer, easier) Lake. I got an email back from the NPS saying they accepted one of my options (my 2nd choice just left 1 day later). Since it's not yet 24 weeks before the second option, I'm guessing they gave me my first choice. There's one final wrinkle to iron out w/r/t our southern itinerary - a possibility that my bro-in-law could join us "half"-way through. I apply for that permit in a couple weeks. I guess now I have to figure out if he's coming out here or not....

Start out in shape and with boots broken in. I don't know how many JMT hikers were sidelined by blisters, boot problems, or insufficient fitness level. What a wonderful time you will have!

Bowlderman - why would the South Lake option be easier than the North Lake Option?

If you go through Humphreys Basin to North Lake, it is easy. If you go to North Lake cross country via Darwin Lakes and Lamarck Col, it is adventurous, but still fairly easy.

The use trail from the JMT to Darwin Lakes is fairly good. You have to rock hop past the Darwin Lakes if you go too high on the north side of the lake. The col itself is a slog up the side of the mountain, but 100% walking around boulders, not over them. Great fishing for goldens in the Darwin Lakes.

No matter which hike you go on or which route you take, it will be awesome.

Hi Phil! I was just assuming that the Lamarck Col route was very difficult, albeit doable. So comparing that to hiking on a trail would make it harder, that's all.

JS: You'll be passing us, one way or another! We'll have to talk before then....

I'll send one on, js - gettin' ready for a trip at the moment. Like wannabp should be!

BTW, the confirmation from the NPS came for my northern half option - my first choice!

I WAS supposed to be packing, but I am coming down with something headachy, sneezy, and coughy, so we're staying home.

Thanks for the link fix, Js, it wouldn't cooperate with me. And congrats on your permit.

Congrats to you, too, Bowlder.

wannabp - nice pic! I saw trail angel recently. She is done with Stanford and working near Watsonville. I don't think I will be able to attract her down here to teach...it is too nice where she lives.
