For the second time in three days, I'm having coffee. I "quit" last July, after drinking an average of three cups a day for several years. I've only had it a handful of times since last July, but now I'm drinking it with increasing frequency. Good God man, make it stop!!!!!!!

Switch to a high quality decaf. It helps with the transition, kind of like nicotine patches.

High quality is the key. I was told by a dietician that most decafs are made by processing the beans thru formaldehyde.

Of course, I drink decaf every day. lol

As your attorney, I advise you to continue drinking the coffee.

when do you drink the coffee, Artex? maybe you just need to change your habits...like make sure you don't give yourself enough time at home in the morning to drink it.

either that, or use negative association. like, every time you drink a cup of coffee, make yourself look at something that turns your stomach. there's always Violin's Foot Thread... ha!

I thought this was going to be another TT-addiction thread. I went a whole week (almost) without it, but now I am back with vengeance.

i suggest regular coffee beans proccessed through an expresso machine. This gives you more bang for your buck than expresso beans, which aren't actually coffee beans..or something like that. Do this..and you'll be just fine!

Interesting thought, mapleleaf... Yes, I'm a bit stressed about the upcoming move and all, but it's far from overwhelming and it's something I'm really looking forward to so it's a positive thing. I think the primary reason is the extra time I have on my hands.

Lyra, that is tooooooo funny! Not a bad idea! :-)

Opie, that's also not a bad idea.. but it dosen't have that velvety smooth, supple, taste that coffee does. Aaaaaaaaaaah!

Artex. Which do you love the most about coffee?
1. The taste.
2. The warm feel of the liquid.
3. THE SPEED RUSH.
4. You like to be like everyone else.

Ummmm, I don't know how this is going to help you. I'm just curious. =)

Actually, I quit drinking carbonated soft drinks recently, and I feel better, physically. I think you will feel better without coffee, also, but the benefits will be more subtle than dramatic. That's my experience, anyway. Good luck.

A spoon full of sugar will take care of that.

Dunadan, I've also given up on soft drinks. Waaaaaaaay too much refined sugar. While the coffee craving has always been there, there has NEVER been a soda craving since I've given them up at about the same time. I drink a lot of 100% fruit juice (any variety with no added sugar) instead.

As for coffee... I think it's pretty much every reason you've listed!

I feel like such a crackhead!

Just blend regular and decaf beans together and wean yourself off that way. Also, the lighter roasts have more caffeine, the darker roasts less.

"No" to coffee? Eeek! Of course I'm now guilty of the occasional batch of high-test breastmilk, and Laurel can definitely tell the difference.

I sympathize. If I gave up my all of my little addictions, they would have to clean out a cell for me.
BTW, I am currently doing the coffee thing as a hidden pleasure, and I do it primarily to get the old heart a-pumpin'. I like Mocha Grande's extra chocolate, hold the whipped cream. That way, I can get a rush, and impersonate a yuppie at the same time......

I hate drinking coffee. A fresh cup is too hot to drink. And, after waiting for it to cool, there is only a short time before it is too cool. It has no real taste (don't use sugar or cream) and serves no purpose, except to aggravate my doctor. A cup of hot water can be more delightful, when thirsty.

But I just started a second, 20 oz. pot! It's funny! The only time I break the habit is while backpacking, when I never even miss it.

Lyra, the below is perhaps not the best link, but I'm not finding a lot of info, which is surprising.

Silver River

I've seen the monkeys a few times during trips there when I was a kid (I grew up about an hour away from there), but from the tourist boats they run out of Silver Springs. They're really cool. If you and Tarpy want to come down for a trip, lemme know. :-)

I switched to decaf shortly after I stopped smoking. I only drink a quality decaf made by Bucks County Coffee Company. Don't know if they have outlets near the Big Apple or not, but they most likely do not have them in Tampa.

Speaking of which, did you know Tampa was the embarkation port for troops headed to Cuba during the Spanish-American War?

That's interesting, Geo. Tampa's also known for it's cigars. I don't smoke'em.. but I can imagine Crazy Mike and a few others here would have a hay day there.

Coffee is good for you and supports peasants throughout the world.

I went on one of those monkey tours in Florida. It was pretty cool. But if you want to have some real fun, check out one of the monkeyfishing tours. I don’t know if they are exactly legal but it’s a lot of fun! You want to use sturdy deep-sea tackle because those suckers are pretty strong. I suppose you could lighter tackle if you want to be more sporting – the average monkey only weighs about 30 pounds – but they have an advantage fish don’t – they can use their hands to free themselves. Fruit is the bait of choice – apples, kiwis and oranges work best. You toss the baited hook up on the shore and the monkeys swarm around the fruit. When you feel a strong tug, you yank real hard to set the hook. You’ll know you have one by the shriek – it’ll set your hair on end. You don’t actually want to land the monkey in the boat – can you imagine a pissed off monkey running around inside your boat trying to bite you? Just cut them lose a few yards from the boat and they’ll make their way back to the shore – they aren’t really very good swimmers so this part is pretty entertaining.
