I just volunteered to be PTA President

“Yeah, the PPO (samething as a PPO) sucks. They are all un educated mothers that don't listen to people who know what to do.

My advise is to listen to the students not the principal. The principal is out of touch with the students. In my situation, anway.”

“My wife is secretary for our daughter's school's PTO. They are trying to convince her to be VP, since the current VP left in the middle of her term.

My advice: All of a sudden, your load at work just got a lot heavier. You regret it, but you must let this mantle pass to another, etc., etc...”

“I know, I know. What you guys describe is what has been going on since we came back from Christmas (whoops, the Holiday Season) Break. We have missed a previously scheduled PTA meeting/student performance, have no plans yet for the annual spaghetti dinner, no plans for the field day, all because no one wants to meet with more than three other PTA members in fear that they might accidentally get elected when they go to the bathroom. I guess i am the weakest of the bunch. I just couldn't watch the PTA spiral into the ground any longer.”

“I was a VP on the PTA and then the Treasurer the next year for the PTA. I really resent Ice Tea's remark. The majority of our board members are always college graduates and sometimes they have masters or even doctorates. They have to deal with all the parents who think that it is the school's job and everyone else's job to raise their children, except of course, themselves, who are too busy to take responsibility. Those of you who are helpful at school events, volunteer your time, even accept the slave job of school board member or PTA board member, you should be commended.”

20 years ago my wife was PTO treasurer and I was the PTO representative on the school board. After a couple of years as the PTO rep on the board I became a regular member of the board. For the past 13 years I have been board chair. I have found it very rewarding.

The PTO can do a lot of good if they stay focused on the classroom (teacher & kids). When I was a kid my parents criticized our local PTA quite a bit. I asked why and my dad showed me a copy of the PTA budget and asked how much was going to help the kids. The answer was "practically none!". I never forgot that.”

I was on my daughters and sons PTA, I was asked if I wanted to run for PAT Pres, I said thank yofor the thought but NO WAY!! I just dont have time to do that stuff anymore. I know that sounds horrible, but thems the facts jack!

hyway, keeo an open mind and listen to EVERYONE. thats what makes a good Pres. I love my sons princ. at his school she has done a great job. she has worked very hard to listen to parents and the child. yes child do have rights!

Our membership chairperson has been very unhappy with the job and has stated many times in no uncertain terms that she wasn't going to do it next year.
