I just volunteered to be PTA PresidentView MessagesViewing posts 1 to 35 of 35 messages posted.
Elementary School PTA President “Our current PTA president received a promotion at work and took our vice-president with him. We had no one who wanted to take over, so the poor school is going to have to try to make do with the newsletter chairperson. The lowest man on the totem pole. I hope this doesn't cut into my backpacking time.” 2:33:48 PM 2/27/03 “Yeah, the PPO (samething as a PPO) sucks. They are all un educated mothers that don't listen to people who know what to do. My advise is to listen to the students not the principal. The principal is out of touch with the students. In my situation, anway.” 2:45:10 PM 2/27/03 “well, I didn't mean for this to be an attack on the people who give their time to the schools for nothing in return, but I understand your point. Principals are 60% buraucrat (God I wish this place had a spell checker) and 40% educator.” 2:49:59 PM 2/27/03 “I'm sorry.” 2:50:11 PM 2/27/03 “Sucker! hehehee...” 2:52:05 PM 2/27/03 “My wife is secretary for our daughter's school's PTO. They are trying to convince her to be VP, since the current VP left in the middle of her term. My advice: All of a sudden, your load at work just got a lot heavier. You regret it, but you must let this mantle pass to another, etc., etc...” 2:52:19 PM 2/27/03 “I know, I know. What you guys describe is what has been going on since we came back from Christmas (whoops, the Holiday Season) Break. We have missed a previously scheduled PTA meeting/student performance, have no plans yet for the annual spaghetti dinner, no plans for the field day, all because no one wants to meet with more than three other PTA members in fear that they might accidentally get elected when they go to the bathroom. I guess i am the weakest of the bunch. I just couldn't watch the PTA spiral into the ground any longer.” 2:57:57 PM 2/27/03 “you will find out what a dumb mistake you just made” 3:25:44 PM 2/27/03 “I am not afraid of mistakes. I am also not afraid to what has to be done when no one else cares enough to do it. My kids are happy about it, and thats what really counts in my book anyway.” 3:34:34 PM 2/27/03 “Presidents serve a four-year term, Popes and Supreme Court Justices for life, and PTA presidents until burnout.” 3:44:01 PM 2/27/03 “Am I the only one who just KNEW this was a Mapleleaf thread before I opened it. I was wrong.” 3:50:09 PM 2/27/03 “No SS, I had that same inkling: "What's Maple gotten into now?"” 3:52:28 PM 2/27/03 “not me...i'd think other parents would know better..lmao” 3:57:16 PM 2/27/03 “By all means, take Tea's advice and let the inmates run the asylum, LOL” 4:06:34 PM 2/27/03 “Condolences.” 4:13:01 PM 2/27/03 “Poor hyway. He's just trying to be responsible. I'd encourage my wife to be our PTO's VP, if stress didn't make her absolutely nuts. Good luck Hyway.” 4:14:19 PM 2/27/03 “I was a VP on the PTA and then the Treasurer the next year for the PTA. I really resent Ice Tea's remark. The majority of our board members are always college graduates and sometimes they have masters or even doctorates. They have to deal with all the parents who think that it is the school's job and everyone else's job to raise their children, except of course, themselves, who are too busy to take responsibility. Those of you who are helpful at school events, volunteer your time, even accept the slave job of school board member or PTA board member, you should be commended.” 4:38:31 PM 2/27/03 “Sory to hear that hyway...yeah, it will cut into ALL your time. FYI...administrators are 100% bureaucrats 0% educator. ;)” 4:51:01 PM 2/27/03 PLEASE PAT YOURSELF ON THE BACK “You are making the best possible use of your time... contributing it to those who need it!! Please ignore those that tell you you're a fool... accept that you are a better person for what you're doing to help others.” 5:08:14 PM 2/27/03 “My first thought when I saw who started the thread was "not Maple, thank God!" I can just imagine how she'd do and what she'd say!” 5:16:25 PM 2/27/03 “Oh I am also calling myself a fool LOL. I don't fault others for saying it too :). I am a part time (afternoons) stay-at-home dad, so I have the time.” 5:30:06 PM 2/27/03 “Hyway, you are kewl in my book. Do the best you can, don't take no for an answer! I've seen (closely) the wonders the PTA can do at a school. I wish you the best in all your endevors (I wish there was speel check too) and hope you find it a rewarding experience, even if it is trying.” 11:53:09 PM 2/27/03 hyway “GOOD JOB! I commend you on being involved in the life and education of your children and the other children in the school. Suspect they will be better for your committment.” 12:07:53 AM 2/28/03 “Go for it. 20 years ago my wife was PTO treasurer and I was the PTO representative on the school board. After a couple of years as the PTO rep on the board I became a regular member of the board. For the past 13 years I have been board chair. I have found it very rewarding. The PTO can do a lot of good if they stay focused on the classroom (teacher & kids). When I was a kid my parents criticized our local PTA quite a bit. I asked why and my dad showed me a copy of the PTA budget and asked how much was going to help the kids. The answer was "practically none!". I never forgot that.” 12:18:18 AM 2/28/03 “Thanks for the pep talk folks. Yesterday I sent out an email to the other PTA members announcing my upcoming corronation and an offer to anyone who wanted the job to meet me on the playground after school to duke it out. Looser gets the job.” 8:41:52 AM 2/28/03 “So by pretending to be the unselfish volunteer and help you have concealed the real motive. To have all those hot young mothers chasing after you day and night, catering to every whim. Wow what a snow job, congratulations LOL.” 9:11:28 AM 2/28/03 “Shhhhh Manuka, besides, you forgot to mention the interns from the local college.” 9:13:33 AM 2/28/03 “hyway, you should feel proud of what your doing. taking a interest in your childs everyday life is a BIG DEAL!! I was on my daughters and sons PTA, I was asked if I wanted to run for PAT Pres, I said thank yofor the thought but NO WAY!! I just dont have time to do that stuff anymore. I know that sounds horrible, but thems the facts jack! hyway, keeo an open mind and listen to EVERYONE. thats what makes a good Pres. I love my sons princ. at his school she has done a great job. she has worked very hard to listen to parents and the child. yes child do have rights! (why would you think I started this thread?)” 9:23:08 AM 2/28/03 “mapleleaf, I can't really call this running for the office of president since it is more like the old saying "I don't have to be able to outrun the bear, I just have to outrun you". Well, I have been outrun and I am about to be mauled by the bear.” 4:37:55 PM 2/28/03 “Where do we send the flowers?” 4:39:22 PM 2/28/03 “GROWL!!!SNORT..... "Go 'head, look me inna eye" says Brer Bear.” 7:23:32 PM 2/28/03 “oh please please, don't throw me in dat briar patch, I said. forgetting that bears don't mind briars.” 7:42:42 PM 2/28/03 “I just completed my first big task as PTA president. Our membership chairperson has been very unhappy with the job and has stated many times in no uncertain terms that she wasn't going to do it next year. Well, she just committed to doing it one more year and to train a replacement for the following year.” 10:03:22 AM 3/05/03 “Can we see the blackmail photos? Congrats, hyway!” 10:04:32 AM 3/05/03 “wouldnt it have been better to get someone that WANTS to be there?” 10:05:17 AM 3/05/03
