WEBSHOTS Photo Albums

“I just got an e-mail from WEBSHOTS telling me they were going to seriously cut my two free albums if I didn't come up with some upgrade money. Last August I upgraded two albums..mountainmaster2002 and mountainmaster2003 at a cost of $80...that's two year subscriptions for both. Six months later the prices have gone up more than 15%. They want more than $90 for two more albums for two years.

I don't mind paying the freight, but when they increase prices by that amount in the first 6 months, I'm out unless they can give me better prices for my four albums...screw 'em.

Anyone else have views about this? I like the service, but they
went too far too fast with their pricing.”

“mtnmstr, are you saying you DID upgrade and now they're saying you have to upgrade MORE? I also upgraded last August (one account), but I have not received any email from them. Did they email you by mistake? Maybe I'm just confused....”

“Mountainmaster, last year Webshots began charging for their service. I believe it was August. The fee is $39.83 for two years. This entitles you to 50 albums of 60 photos each. You can sign up for a year as well, but don't recall what that cost is.”

“I got the same e-mail.
It was regarding the account that I didn't upgrade. You can still have a free account...but they are going to limit the # of pics and 3 of albums.
Here is the bulk of that e-mail...

"Due to the cost of web storage, on April 4, 2002, we began limiting Webshots Free members to 10 photo albums with up to 24 photos each. Webshots Unlimited members are able to create up to 50 albums with 60 images each.

As a Webshots Free user, we granted you a grace period for all of your photos and photo albums that exceeded our new limits. Unfortunately, your grace period is expiring in a few days.

In order to access all of your photo albums on Webshots, you'll need to upgrade to our premium membership, Webshots Unlimited.

If you do not upgrade your membership before March 31, 2003, you will lose access to any photos and albums above the free limit. You will still be able to access up to 24 photos in your 10 oldest albums. All other photos will be permanently deleted unless you upgrade your membership.

This is your last notice. If you upgrade to Webshots Unlimited, you'll also get unlimited photo downloads, high-resolution downloads and more great benefits!"”

“I only have one album. I paid the fee for it and have had no problems. I doubt that I'll get a seconde album. I'll probably just delete older albums when I get to the limit. For the amount I use Webshots, I think it was worth paying the fee.”

“The fee is also worth it to me. I paid the $39 each for two albums last August. I have two other albums I didn't upgrade, and now they want $45 to upgrade each of those. That is a substantial raise in rates...15%...since last August. That's my gripe. How much will it cost next year?”

“I just payed the money for a 6 month membership to save one of my album's. I'm glad someone mentioned the change in the upgrades. I have 3 accounts and I don't usually log into all of them. I just realized my very first account has too many albums and they had several albums locked that I really want to keep. The 6 month membership was all that I could afford for now, I just want to see how I like it.”

“Could be worse, remember Photopoint, they started charging and then folded. The only way you could get your images back was pay an additional $35-40. Now that's extortion!”

“I wouldn't complain too much. The Webshots rules say you can only have one account -- which makes no financial sense to me if you're willing to pay for additional space, but that's they're rule. They say if they find multiple accounts they'll close them all down with no refunds.”
