Well no smart boy, that would be what is happening according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics - the same one relied upon by the author's of sarge's linked article.

US Bureau of Labor Statistics? I've been under the understanding that we aren't to trust the government as long as Bush is at the helm. What gives?

Like Dayhiker, I'm glad the market and my 401k and IRA are doing nicely this year. I'm also glad for wages increasing.

But, we saw better under Clinton and the national debt was getting paid down. Not much bad news for Libbies, even ones who are all smug about Bush's failings on the economy.

The back peddle tag was meant to point out the tightrope you constantly walk between correcting and setting us sheep straight and being the great TT mediator who is always the voice of reason.

Look the Republicans walked away from their roots. I admit that...

9/11 the responded with a government solution i.e FEDERALIZE Airport Security.

medicare prices rising....Steal more money.

I am really frightened what will happen now that the Dems are there. Bush is no more than a trade off for Clinton. Clinton was probably the best thing that ever happened to the Republicans.

Wow - its all about the attitude and the people Nigal ain't it.

Your attack really makes no sense.

First off, I make no claim to be the voice of reason. I try to use reason and evidence and when I think someone is wrong, I try to offer convincing evidence for it.

Secondly, there is no contradiction between being the voice of reason and setting the sheep straight. If I thought I was doing them both, I would think I was doing them at the same time. However, that sounds like a frickin boring job.

I'm here to have fun and sometimes that means arguing, which is usually more fun for me than simple name calling and contradiction (consult Monty Python if you need clarification - you dumb fricken Ewe)

This will be a $50 grand loss day for me on paper , been here and done this afew toomany times before- no biggy. The fact that the oil market showed today the influence of traders, when they started liquidating positions in oil to fund their margins on the other issues, caused a down impact on the oil futures. Supply and demand tell only part of modern pricing.

If you lost $50 grand today, how much have you made in the last couple of weeks when the market was going up setting new records all over the place? $400 doesn't even put it back to where it was 2 weeks ago does it?

I was way off it was -$32,295.36 and takes me back to 07/11/07 in net worth. You're very close, but being approx. 65% foreign invested spins that estimate a bit.

Good thing I sold what I had to sell for college tuition for two kids this fall before the market tanked.

Nice report on economic growth this morning, but I still am not going to peek at my 401K this morning. Gotta have a couple of drinks of courage first.

The market will go up again. It always does. And then it will go down again. It always does.

No, been at this for 25 years both personally and professionally. The current market condition doesn't have anything to do with the time of year. Have you even read the news lately?

Yup, we'll just have to see.

I am still trying to figure out if my utility stock dropped in sympathy, or for some other reason. It's a blue chip, so might have been a combination of factors. Gotta do more research.

Any ideas?

Three weeks later we had a hiccup in the market...he BAILED.

Sure, we have seen worse. I think we had a bigger drop last February, for example. The market came back then and I think it will again. In fact, I would not be surprised if the DOW breaks 14,000 again this year. The economy is doing well, unemployment is in check. Housing market still sucks though and money is expensive to borrow.

The drop is not a bad time for everyone. Bargain hunters are loving this I am sure.

My D got hammered too. Better today though. This is the company that is doing the dutch auction that I asked you about. So the bright side is that the company will probably be able to buy back more shares at the low end of the auction spread. This will reduce the outstanding shares and get the value back up. I just wish the dang stock would split. It's too expensive right now, even with the drop, but the dividend is nice.

Seeing all the knee jerk reaction on the Hill in the past few weeks makes one wonder what they'd do if the economy really took a bath.
