Kelty Pack
There is a Kelty "Red Cloud" pack listed in my latest copy of Sportsman Guide. I can't find the model anywhere else. Has anyone seen this model or is it made just for S.G. It's listed under camping & hiking - backpacks.

I have one.

It is a monster pack. Reasonably well made with decent suspension. it is one of my loaners. It will carry a ton of gear.

I think it weighs around 6 pounds. I can get the exact weight at home it you need it.

I can find red clouds everywhere, just not the model that they list there. Red Cloud Classic 4500 & 5500. The price seems right at $79.99 & 99.99. They don't list that model/size/color at the Kelty website.

Perhaps they are discontinued, and Sportsman's is closing out old stock.

Thanks. That's what I figured. Seems like a good price and I need something for longer or winter trips.

E-BAY
I got my wife her pack on E-Bay. The Kelty Red Cloud 5400 for about 90 bucks. This is one nice pack!! external pockets galore. Well worth the investment. Sportsman's Guide has the first green one I've seen. All the others I have seen are blue.

Sportsmans Guide has great prices but they gouge you on shipping.

Kelty packs are a good workhorse, not the fit of high end packs but well made and durable.

I am very skeptical about buying stuff like that from Sportsman's Guide. Alot of thier stuff is "strange" in one way or another - maybe a chinese knock off or something ?

If you read the description:
"These high-tech Kelty® Backpacks feature exclusive "Guide Suspension" you'll only find here"

This may be of lesser quality than what Kelty supplies to other retailers

just my 2 cents - but if I can get a similar pack elswares for a couple bucks more - I would

I checked my list of weights and measures and the pack weighs 5 pounds 10 ounces.

Mine is blue also. I can dig it out of the storage bin if you have any other questions.

The Sportsman's Guide does have some weird items. I haven't purchased anything from them in a while, but I did return some items and they are solid on that issue. I don't remember shipping being real high, but it was above cost. I don't think Kelty would compromise quality, but anything labeled 'Kelty by Ridgeway' is a ripoff.

R.E, Red Cloud
Im not sure the ones in sportsmans guide are the same as the Red Clouds in other stores. It says in sportsmans guide that they are the soft side Red clouds. What exactly are soft side packs?? they pretty much all have soft sides from what ive seen. anybody know the diference???? Streamweaver

I did it !
I ordered the pack and received it yesterday. I compared it to a Red Cloud that I'd borrowed. Other than the color, I can't find any noticable differences. Now .... to get to a trai and break it in.
